My 94 nissan patrol won't idle

if you mean it stalls at idle speed then it needs a service, the idle jets seem to be blocked and need a clean.
if you mean the engine stays and high rev and will not go down to idle this might mean the automatic choke is stuck on or the throttle cable is jammed and should be looked at.

I hope this was useful.

My 1995 caddy 4.9 surges when you race the motor at a high idle speed you let off the gas some and it stops until you try to race the motor again

Some of these models have a rev limit. This is to save the motor.Keeps it from blowing up.Usually around 3 gran. Not just caddy`s but most G.M. models.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Engine idle sits at 1200 revs , and surges past 2000 revs when stopping car with brakes

i think there's an air leak in your brake booster. Just try to disconnect the vacuum hose going to your brake booster and plugged it use a vise grip to press it. The idle shld go down if there's an air leak

'98 S10 4 cyl. 5 speed: Sudden high idle, now surges.

Go to your local shucks or auto zone and they can check any codes behind your check engine light and it's free. It sounds like one of two things a O2 sensor or your mass airflow sensor but they will tell you for sure

Revs drop coming to standstill

Here is the cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
