The door lock/unlock relays are under the dash in the I/P (Instrument Panel) junction box. since you 'hear' the relay CLICK, but nothing happens (no functions), seems to me you need a technician to diagnose/ troubleshoot the problem.. would you agree? If not, you could Go to www.hmaservice.com and register( Vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you have access to shop manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, etc. about your vehicle.

2002 HYUNDAI SONATA. KEY FOBS WILL UNLOCK ALL

Replace the "lock" relay, found behind the fuse box. You have to stick your head where the gas pedal is, and look at the top end of the back of the fuse panel. There are 2 small square plastic boxes. Unplug them, spray them with electrical cleaning spray, and switch their spots. If everything works, there was some contact problem, if door will now lock but not unlock, one of the relays is bad. Part number "HMC DECO 95225 - 38300".

My 02 Sonata can be unlocked (all 4 doors) from the outside using the key in either the driver or passenger door, but will not lock. Any suggestions?

Yep... more information!.. same behavior when keyless remote is used?... IF SO, then you have a bad relay - door 'LOCK' relay.

Hyundai 2002 sonata,,,, car has power locks.

You are correct in your assumption about a relay... there are two relays. One is for 'LOCKING' the other is for 'UN-LOCKING.' They are both labeled as "LOCK" relays (1 & 2). You can verify if a relay is bad by swapping one with the other. If the problem moves to 'unlocking' the doors, but will NOW LOCK - the relay is bad. If not, further troubleshooting is necessary.

Auto Door Locks

Automatic door locks on the 2001 Sonata doesn't exist. The doors are locked manually (by the driver) or by using the Keless Remote. To answer your question, YES, there is a separate relay for each function .. this means there is a relay which LOCKS the doors, and there is a separate relay which UNLOCKS the doors. They are located side-by-side on the I/P junction box (I/P = Instrument Panel).
They are both labeled "Lock", but one "UNLOCKS" while the other one 'LOCKS'.

2003 Hyundai Sonata Door Lock Problem

I had this problem. Through some research and asking some service personnel I found out it is a fairly easy fix. You will need to buy a new relay switch for the door locks. The dealer will/should know what you need. They are located (two of them, buy two and replace both) on the back side of the fuse box. It is not that easy to get back there. I had to lay on my back with my head up under the instrument panel. They are visible and can be removed if you take some time and be careful. Once I knew what I was looking at, it was easy to replace and the remote works like a charm. You can go to an auto supply, like Autozone, and they should have a schematic to show you where these relays are.

Remote door locks

Hi,
Had the exact problem on my 02- Stick you hand under and pull out one of the relays where the clicking is.
Really tight under but I did it more by feel. I also went to a auto recycle place and picked up a relay from another sonata for 1 dollar, better than 30 dollars. Works like new. Take in the old one and match pins and numbers. There are two relays the same one for opening and one for closing . It is small and is hard to pull out. Good luck.
