On the road, car seems to make a soft whaahp whaahp sound. Think it's coming from front somewhere. How do I check for bad wheel bearings if you think they might be the culprits? Jim Denike
The Sonata has an 'open' transaxle and will have one dominant side while not under load. If you placed a block of wood under the right side and gently loaded it up at idle, the transaxle will transfer power to the opposite side of the car. Check the balance and condition of your tyres as an out of round tyre will make a continuously oscillating sound relevant to road speed. Sure sign of a bad wheel bearing is the centre hub of your wheels will feel abnormally hot after driving.

SOURCE: Squeaky sound front left tire and 4Wheel Drive will not turn on
the squeak could be brakes or wheel hub/bearing. most likely it is the bearing and hub assembly, i would not drive it , take it to you local service station and have then replace or repair the hub assy.
SOURCE: had both front wheel bearing assemblies replaced recently
Tire/wheel balance or front end alignment problem
SOURCE: in 4 wheel drive front wheels wobble bad
i had the same problem,i endend up changing the hub bearings and ball joints and front u joints the main problem was the hub bearings
SOURCE: Vibration and noise from front end while driving
Jack up the front end and put stands under it and block rear wheels. Look at axle boots and see if they are cracked. Try turning wheel back and forth sharply and see if you can hear any clicking. Problem could be outer axle joints. If the boots are cracked or you hear a clicking noise you will have to replace the axle. The axle and boot come as a complete unit. Please let me know what you find out.
