Just bought the vechile, 1. The door ajar light was on constantly and dome light remained on ALL THE TIME, previous owner removed the buld. 2. When locking the doors with the switch on the DRIVERS door, driver door will lock and then unlock right away. You can manually push the button down and it will remain locked. You can lock the door using the key and it will remain locked. NOTE the lock button on drivers side REAR door moves slightly but doesn't lock or unlock by either of the electric switches. You can lock and unlock that door by hand. The PASSENGER side electric switch will lock and unlock all the doors, but the DRIVERS SIDE REAR door ---- and the drivers door lock will REMAIN locked, not unlock automatically. 3. Getting in or out of the drivers door with the keys out of the ignition the warning chime starts and continues until you close the door. With the driver door closed, you can open any of the other 3 doors without the key in the ignition and it DOES NOT start the warning chime. I Oiled all 4 door assemblies and that solved the "door ajar " and the dome light issues. But I'm not sure where to go next. I don't know if the lock and the chime are part of the same issue. Any insight you can lend on these issues would greatly help. What systems use the chimes as a warning when getting out of the vechile? If this has been covered, can you send me a link. Thanks in advance. John, Omaha, NE
Hi John,
Had a similar problem with my Saturn. Door chime going all the time, the seat belts going up - down - up for no apparent reason.
Turned out to be the switch in the door jamb had become unseated. As it randomly made and broke contact, the cars computer thought the doors were opening and closing, then acted accordingly.
I remounted it with the help of a hot glue gun (plastic mount).
Hope this info helps with your problem.
Best regards
Mike

Update: I removed the 3 screws that hold the plastic covers over the steering column and removed the top piece. The movement of shifting the lower plastic cover can stop the chiming and allows the drivers door to lock when using the electric switch on the door. I've reached under the dash and checked the wire connectors that come away from the ignition switch and they seem tight in their harnesess. Can't see what is loose. But what ever is loose or broken is around the steering column. How do you get the ignition lock out to check the "key in the ignition " unit on the back side? all
