Hello! The noise from your engine could be a variety of things, some very minor and some quite serious. The Rover V8 is a unique engine, and has some unique quirks. Check your oil pressure with a gauge at idle and at 2000 revs, both with a cold engine and after it has warmed to operating temperature. Reference the factory service manual with your results.

As to your driveline noise, some of the Series II Discoveries have known issues with the U-joints on the front prop shaft wearing out and failing catastrophically. Check or have a reputable shop check the condition of your front U-joints as soon as possible. If the U-joints are good, your noise might be from the front differential. I have a 2003 that has been clunking from the front differential for 20,000 miles now. It will eventually need the front axle rebuilt.

Good luck, and check out www.landroversonly.com for a wealth of information

2002 land rover discovery oil pan removal?

Your problem is that now, the gasket glue is the only thing holding it . Use a SOFT hammer, rubber preferably, and tap the pan where it meets the engine. Once loosened, GENTLY pry it away from the engine , moving down and around the outside, using a wide flat screwdriver. It will drain fluid as soon as it starts to give, be ready for it.Leave two bolts, positioned on two adjacent corners in, loosely, so the entire pan doesn't fall away, spilling fluid everywhere. Good luck !

Sounds like Valves or Lifters. Try changing your oil using a lower viscosity.

Suggested Solution 2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II Logo Problem with 2002 Discovery Series II Starts fine when cold, after running dies on idle then wont start 2002 land rover discovery, starts fine...

The ignition system is controlled by the ECM. Check power at fuse box in on right side under dash. Check fuses right side engine compartmentlower dash panel if all OK check power to ECM located right side "A" pillar in alloy box. this unit could be faulty if no spark at coils, assuming they have been connected correctly. may have to get tested for codes at L/R dealer or someone with test tool. Another source of problem may well be flat battery in transponder key. The indicator light on the dash willflash rapidly for 10 seconds if the vehicle has been unlocked with the remote and the drivers door is opened if the battery in remote is getting low

2002 land rover discovery II overheated, it will start but won't keep running

Honestly it sounds like you eighter blow a head gasket or the intake manifold gasket. Do you see white steamy smoke coming out the tail pipe or if you pull the dip stick out do you see white fomey yellowish **** on the stick .Or if you look inside the antifreeze reseveor or radiator cap oil floating on top of the antifreeze. If any of these things are happening then the problem is antifreeze is leaking into one or more of the cylinders and the vehicle will not run good and this will reck the engine fast if not repaired quickly. So look for oil in the antifreeze or antifreeze in the engine oil

Hello, My 2002 Land Rover Discovery II SD with 90K miles has difficulty starting on the first try. It always starts on the second, what could this be? I also hear something like rocks flying around coming...

Replacment of the fuel pump would not sound to far off.
The noise you are hearing sound's, like the catalytic converter is falling apart, inside, replacement ,would be in order

Default code P1451 Land Rover Discovery II

The code P1451 on a Land Rover is "Leakage Detection Module Motor power stage error Drive cycle A:Signal out of range - above maximum". This is an OBD-II diagnostic system code. As far as I know, a 1995 Land Rover Discovery does not use a OBD-II system. Is it possible that this rover is a later model year

Blinking Lights

It sounds like there is a fault with the automatic transmission. you need to go to the dealer to plug in the tester and see what the problem is. All you can do is check the oil level, that is , if there is a dipstick and not a plug on the side of the transmission.
