coming out of what. try to be clear. dripping off CAT dripping out exh. ports. dripping out tail pip end. where. (exactly where) or show a photo. here.
I SEE 2 POSTS (my guess, 6ve1 enigne twin cam) with cop coil questions??? well,(no pun) when you remove them? any mech(tech) looks down that well holes and if full of oil , its VC time. if full of water, shoot your pressure waster guy. or if the boots are all melted and or look all nwith carbon, its NEW BOOT TIME
this is all basics of a tuneup with cares with cops. need a book> can show one,
VC means valve cover gasket SET , which includes the rings that keep wells DRY. not Viet cong, (i survived them mofos.)
Regarding 2001 audi a6 quattro 2.7t....i was driving to work the car was fine then white smoke starting coming from under the hood and tail pipe. i stopped veilce and alot of oil was dripping from front of car. I towed it home and i looked under the hood and there was oil from valve cover gasket. i let the car sit for a few days, had it running again for a good hour and no white smoke was coming out. I removed the valve cover and gaskets are all bad. i want to know can the valve cover gasket leak cause the white smoke to come from exhaust pipe?
Smoke from the exhaust at start up means that the valve seals are leaking oil into the cylinder, smoke when you accellerate means that the piston rings are leaking oil.
Could be oil dripping from the valve cover onto the exhaust pipe. One drip can cause alot of smoke when it hits the pipe. Could be power steering fluid too.
Has to be a small oil leak above the exhaust header or pipe...Possibly the rear of the valve cover gasket...because the engine slopes to the rear, oil collects there, and drips off onto the exhaust. (I'm a 30 year retired British Leyland auto tech)
Hi, you may have a valve cover gasket leak that is dripping on the exhaust manifold. I would inspect the valve cover area for oil spots and rim leaks. The smoke is coming from the dripping of the oil on the manifold or, lower exhaust pipe.
White smoke is caused by coolant or water
coming out the tail pipe. There is a
chance that the white smoke was caused by
water splashing up from a puddle onto the
exhaust pipe. Keep an eye on the
coolant level in the radiator in any event. If its less then there leak coolant leak in the car engine which is causing this problem....
You either have had the wrong valve seals installed, they are physically missing, or the valves are incorrect (too loose in the guides/stem too thin). The rocker arm seals will not contribute to your issue. If it did not have the oil smoke before you took the head off, the issue is with whatever the machine shop did. Valve seals have to fit TIGHT, or oil will go down the valve stem into the intake.
Take the head back to the machine shop & tell them to fix it. For free.
