It seems the piston rings have worn out .engine oil is seeping into the combustion chamber and out through the exhaust.

Regarding 2001 audi a6 quattro 2.7t....i was driving to work the car was fine then white smoke starting coming from under the hood and tail pipe. i stopped veilce and alot of oil was dripping from front of car. I towed it home and i looked under the hood and there was oil from valve cover gasket. i let the car sit for a few days, had it running again for a good hour and no white smoke was coming out. I removed the valve cover and gaskets are all bad. i want to know can the valve cover gasket leak cause the white smoke to come from exhaust pipe?

I have a 97 Chrysler Sebring LX with 132,000 miles. I lose about a quart of oil every 3 weeks and have smoke coming from my exhaust pipe. After about an hour of letting it idle it will stop smoking. I...

Smoke from the exhaust at start up means that the valve seals are leaking oil into the cylinder, smoke when you accellerate means that the piston rings are leaking oil.

I have a 1998 dodge stratus. 2.4 L 4 cyl engine. smoke began coming from the back aarea of engine just in front of dashboard; radiator full. not running hot. oil level ok. no leak. no light indicato

Could be oil dripping from the valve cover onto the exhaust pipe.
One drip can cause alot of smoke when it hits the pipe.
Could be power steering fluid too.

Grey/Whitish smoke (small amount) rising from rear of engine

Has to be a small oil leak above the exhaust header or pipe...Possibly the rear of the valve cover gasket...because the engine slopes to the rear, oil collects there, and drips off onto the exhaust. (I'm a 30 year retired British Leyland auto tech)

I noticed my subaru leeking oil, i checked the oil level and was fine and eveytime i drive fast there is a small bit of smoke and burning smell from the engine can anybody help???

Hi, you may have a valve cover gasket leak that is dripping on the exhaust manifold. I would inspect the valve cover area for oil spots and rim leaks. The smoke is coming from the dripping of the oil on the manifold or, lower exhaust pipe.

Please rate and god bless:)

White smoke exhaust

White smoke is caused by coolant or water coming out the tail pipe. There is a chance that the white smoke was caused by water splashing up from a puddle onto the exhaust pipe. Keep an eye on the coolant level in the radiator in any event. If its less then there leak coolant leak in the car engine which is causing this problem....

1993 TOYOTA TERCEL 1500cc Valve Seals Replaced now smokes much worse

You either have had the wrong valve seals installed, they are physically missing, or the valves are incorrect (too loose in the guides/stem too thin). The rocker arm seals will not contribute to your issue. If it did not have the oil smoke before you took the head off, the issue is with whatever the machine shop did. Valve seals have to fit TIGHT, or oil will go down the valve stem into the intake.
Take the head back to the machine shop & tell them to fix it. For free.
