Need the year please but check the cigarette lighter fuse it is different on different years

you most likley have a blown fuse. the fuse for the connector and cig lighter are usually on the same circuit . if you have a owner manuel check and see which fuse is for the obd/cig lighter. if you dont have a manuel then check every fuse in the box and see if you find a blown one. the plug whare the scanner connects is what powers the scanner so if you cant find a blown fuse then you know youre not getting power to the plug for some reason.

Chryslers can be read this way but not Ford. You need a code reader. But be aware that the code does not tell you the problem. It only suggest a symptom like open or short or out of parameters. If you dont know how to test components you wont know if you only have a loose wire or something

That's because it's OBD1 and your generic code reader won't work on that.
The plug will be just inside the fender on the left rear of the engine compartment.

Et1505an code reader comes up with link error every time i try to scan my 04 f-150 is it the scanner or my truck if it is my truck what is the cause. How would I fix it ?
The only way to find out if it is the code reader or the truck is to plug in another code reader or scan tool and see if it gives you the same results (try this first).

NOTE: Generic OBD code readers will operate ONLY on the Class 2 data link. A true scan tool will operate on BOTH the Class 2 and the UART lines. Accessing the onboard computer system with a scan tool may give you a fault code that indicates that the Class 2 circuits may be malfunctioning.

To diagnose onboard computer network communications malfunctions, the proper equipment that can communicate with the ENTIRE network must be used. Please note that generic OBD code readers cannot perform this function.

99 Ford Ranger turns over but won't start
you most likely have the fuse to the obd blown which in most cases is the cig lighter fuse then you should be able to read it and the light not coming on is most likely a short in your cluster and should not affect reading the codes

lok inside the plug and wires to make sure nothing is touching then try the fuse

Bring it to Auto Zone they usually will hook up their code reader to help you out, and you can google trouble codes 2002 f150 OBD II codes.

The 2004 is a CAN system not OBD-2. It uses the same connector but it uses a different signalling to communicate.
