The price does seem a bit high but it could depend on where the brake lines run. If they run over the top of the gas tank they will have to remove the whole tank to replace them. This will take extra time in labour costs. I would recommend you get a second, (and third), opinion from another two or three mechanics.

SOURCE: 2002 Toyota Solara Convertible seat belts not retracting

The front seatblet retractor springs have weakened. Unfortunatly, there are no "user serviceable parts" on them. They would have to be replaced. How many miles is on it? If you have low mileage, the Toyota Customer Experience Center may provide you some assistance, as the belt replacements are quite expensive. I'd call the CEC and explain your dilemma. Here is the number: 1-800-331-4331

SOURCE: 2007 toyota camry solara, 30,000 mile maintenance,

In reality, all you really need to do is spark plugs, distributor cap, oil change. It is recommended that you change coolant if it's not the long life coolant (orange is long life), flush your transmission. Recommended does not mean have to do, but it won't hurt. The dealer will probably charge you anywhere from $400 to $1000 depending on what they say you should have done.

Loss of breaks. Brake fluid leaking from brake line near rear wheel where the line is strapped to the frame. Any ideas? Am I looking at a big repair bill?

No, happens all the time to rusty lines. Have it towed to a brake shop. Brake line replacement is relatively easy but requires a couple of special tools. If the line goes over the gas tank, I usually just leave the busted part up there and reroute a new splice to the wheel cylinder. Labor should be no more than a couple of hours if they do it that way.

I ran low on gas in my 2004 toyota solara after filling it up i noticed that it lost power and would'nt go over 45 miles per hour....what do you think the proplem could be?

There are always deposits inside the fuel tank. Usually, driving around with more than 1/4 tank slshes them around enough to keep them out of the fuel pump screen. But, when you run low on gas, the sediment gets sucked to the screen, and blocks your fuel flow. If the solara is built like most toyota cars, there will be an overhead access to the tank. This is located under the rear seat bottom. Remove the rear seat bottom by pulling up on the back of it first. then tilt the rear toward you and push the front of the seat about 1/4 inch backwards. This will disengage the front clips of the seat. there will be a little circular cover with 10 or 12 bolts under there. remove the bolts and lift the cover. Pull the assembly out. You have the fuel level and pump assembly in your hands. At the bottom is a little motor and a fine mesh screen. When clean, this screen is white. When dirty, its usually a brown-orange color. You can get this screen from autozone or advance.

Brake pedal

You will need to bleed the brake fluid again starting at the furthest wheel cylinder working your way up to the closest to the master cylinder. This way you will remove all air from the lines. Do the master cylinder last. The ABS must be done as well before the master cylinder

Where do I find the fuel filter on my 2001 toyota solara 4 cyl??

The fuel filter on a 2002 Camry is an "In-Tank Filter". This means the filter is in the gas tank and is integrated with the fuel pump. In order to replace the filter, you must remove the tank and disassemble the fuel pump.
Toyota's service schedule, which can be found at ToyotaOwnersOnline.com, does not list the fuel filter replacement through 120K miles (as high a the schedule goes).
Thank you for using Fixya and hope this helps.

Break light coming on and off

There is a sensor in the master cylinder reservoir, that measures the amount of brake fluid in the reservoir. As the pads wear, the fluid level drops proportionally. When the pads are near the replacement interval, the fluid level is lowest, and the sensor trips the light. Best advise: Get the front brakes checked, they may be due for replacement.
