SOURCE: rear brake lights inop...3rd brake light works fine...

Switch module in steering column will need to be replaced or the brake switch itself at the pedal. There was actually a recall for the pedal switch that came out in early 02 Usually the switch in the column about $125.00 at the aftermarket parts stores

SOURCE: 2003 Toyota Camry - Both Brake lights not working

Lok in the trunk on the left side, behind the carpet for a small plastic box with a bunch of wires going to it. Look to see if there is brake light powe coming in with the pedal depressed. If so, and no power is coming out, you need to order and replace the "taillamp failure sensor".

What could be my problem with brAkE-lights flashers and turn signals?

FUSES BAD OR MODULES AND SWITCHES
NO BCM brain box here.
USA car , canada is NO THE SAME electrics !!!!
so flashers means turns, and turns are dead all 4 corners or what? all flasters is HAZARD lamps switch
parks work.(tails and front parks)
turns fail all 4 corners(not told) and hazards dead too all four corners and brake lamps all 3 rear dead.
do not break the brake lamps.
grounds to all lamps good,(the failed ones)
0vdc on ground.
fuses are always first, a 20cent fix. is way and childs play test (or a look)
fuse 1 and 9 not blown in IP BOX x2 , 15amps
OMG fuse 9 runs brake lamps. is this clue , YES
the next in LINE is Electronic flaster not bad.
5 wires and the black ground wire not busted.G204
next in line is the very complex MULTIswitch (column)
next is the BRAKE PEDAL switch NOT BAD.
if not bad 12vdc (push brake pedal) leaves the switch
R/GL wire to all brake lamps including 3 center high mounted lamp and its G300 ground

fix brake lamps only first.
fix that and others get fixed for free (shirt tails free)
to test lamps at rear for brakes the pedal must be depressed . a 2 man job.
fuse 9, hot both sides. and is hot all the time bat side.
brake switch LG/R wire hot all the time key off too.
light green red !
step on brake R/LG goes hot, now. if not switch is bad
Red/light green. (means)

No lights in the back except for top brake light

sounds like a real delema, I would check all fuses first, see how it is . then check wiring @ rear for corrosion, bad connection, etc., inspect closly, next, check all light bulbs, closely, anything yet ? Inspect your wires from back to front along frame rail, under vehicle, for corrosion, bad conn., etc., I'm thinking maybe a main power wire or ground both very important, power to send, ground to send back, what goes around comes around, understand ? many people overlook the ground wire, without it you got nothing, like what you have , nothing !!!! NOW, all power starts @ the battery, so don't forget , those wires need inspection also. your turnsignal switch needs adressed also, in your steering column, and the headlight switch ! take one step @ a time, use patience, check items off as you go, do easiest first, fuses, wires, replace 4-way flasher, turnsignal flasher, get the idea ? you'll get it, keep it simple , cause it is !!!!!!!

1998 Ford Expedition rear break lights not working

check fuses. if all good there i would use a test light to check power to brake light switch on pedal. should be two wires. one will be hot all the time and the other will be hot when brakes are applied. if you have power there and no lights still i would suspect multifunction switch is bad on steering column.

Have a 89 dodge raider;;have no turn//4-way flashers or brake lights;;all fuses good;have power to brake light switch and leaves switch when apply brakes;;found round flasher[4 way flasher]know this...

Hey HotrodHarley,
I would pull out your hazzard switch and clean it real well. the signal, brake lights are connected to the hazzard switch and if it doesn't fully disengage you wont get the brake lights or the flashers to come on. It happened to me on my 89 Raider last year.

My brake lights do not come on when i press the brakes. i have changed the switch for the brake lights but I still get nothing, which wire do I need to change because the brake light wire on my 2000 Esteem...

If you have a meter.... check the bulb socket for 12V DC with someone applying the brake or watch for a 12V DC pulse on the meter when the meter leads are on the socket contact with the emergency flashers on. (+) lead to socket contact and ( - ) lead to chassis ground. If you have the 12V DC on the socket contact then there is a problem with the chassis ground wire.
The brake light socket has 2 terminals. One is for the tail light 12V DC power when the headlights are on and the other one is 12V DC only when the brake lights are supposed to be on. (i.e pulse hazard or brake applied light on)

Also check the BRAKE light fuse in the fuse box located on the front of the left kick panel wall drivers side with a black cover. (4" x 2.5") There is also a fuse and relay box on the left side of the engine compartment. (4" x 7")

The wire color connected to your NEW brake switch that leaves the switch for the tail lights is the same color on the rear of the car and terminates at the tail light assy quick disconnect connector.

94 BMW 325i My Brake lights don't work. ALL the other lights work. I checked the fuse. its ok. I do have water leak inside from Convertible top when it rains.

Hmmm check the brake light switch at the brake pedal.

Water leak huh? check the wiring in that area for the lights, and have the sockets checked out.

No voltage to the socket when brak applied? tracr wires back till you find the break or short thats not allowing the power to flow to the bulbs

Isolate the brake booster by pinching the vacuum line connected to the booster and try braking. If this works your brake booster is bad.

I have no brake lights when i push the pedal. i have checked power to the fuse (good) power to the plug for trailer (good) and i have replaced the switch. I'm lost

If you have power to the trailer plug. Then check and if you have power to your bulbs. Remember to check your third brake light bulb also.
