SOURCE: Does this engine have a timing belt or a chain ??
this engine has a timing chain, it is also one of the best engines GM builds.
SOURCE: 5 speed manual transmission. reverse will not engage
I had the same problem. A spring in the gear change selector had broken making it impossible to get into reverse and very difficult into first to fifth. Simple repair. Might be similar to your problem
SOURCE: has a 2004-2006 honda accord 2.2 diesel, timing belt or chain?
Belt is better replace either about every 100.000 or you'll destroy the engine when it goes out
Belt is Better because it's easier to replace, therefore much cheaper
Chain is inside and in the oil bath so harder= more expensive
By the way. dealer says replace every 60K . 100K is a MAXIMUM
SOURCE: 2005 Pontiac Vibe: when does the timing belt need
There is no timing belt on this vehicle. Vehicle was produced with a timing chain which generally does not need service through the normal lifespan of the vehicle.
SOURCE: Install timing belt Pontiac Vibe
The best Diagram I can offer you is from the Haynes repair manual for your vehicle. You can get one from your local auto parts store. In most cases you will need an "allen wrench" to insert in the center of the tensioner pulley and then use a box end wrench to get enough torque to move it and allow you to remove and install a new belt.
Testimonial: "I went to Advanced, called NAPA & Auto Zone... none of them had the Haynes manual I needed... did get it, just needed and extra set of hands. Thanks!"
Remove the water pump assembly to the timing chain housing bolts (2).
2. Remove the water pump.
3. Remove the water pump O-ring.
IMPORTANT:
The drive belt tensioner must be unloaded and the drive belt removed
before the water pump is removed.
