SOURCE: 2000 dodge caravan engine and transmission swap

Although the transmission may be siilar, the engine and supporting wiring harness, and control modules are not. This can be done, anything can, but it is probably more trouble than it's worth for a mini van. If this was a classic car then sure.

SOURCE: Code PO442 & PO455 on a 2003 Dodge Caravan with 3.3 engine

The problem is most likely to be with your vacuum line they put cheap rubber hose for this purpose. You should find a diagram at the front of the vehicle trace the hoses by this diagram. You most likely will find a bad piece of hose.

SOURCE: diagnostic code for dodge caravan 1996 P1784?

The code is about the switch that monitors the hydraulic pressure for operating the low/reverse clutch of the transmission. That clutch is called into play for all forward gears as well as reverse, so it seems reasonable if that clutch were not working that the car wouldn't move in any gear. I would begin by making sure that there is sufficient trans fluid by inspecting its dipstick. If needed only use ATF +4 but don't overfill it. Also, just on a chance, take a look underneath to see if you see any motion of either the left or right half axles (or one moving, but one not) which would be another reason for no motion due to a drive shaft disconnection or some such anomaly. Other than that, your problem could be with the Low/Reverse solenoid switch in the solenoid pack portion of the transmission (the box on the driver's side of the trans) being stuck. That can be repaired without removing and rebuilding the transmission so let us hope that may be the cause. I would have the car towed to a good independent trans shop that has a reputation for knowing how to service the Chrysler electronic transmission.

Hope this helps.

Replace the transaxle or see if it can be rebuilt. Those transaxles have incorporated electronic solenoids that can fail causing the codes to appear as you described. One thing you might check prior to getting it rebuilt or replaced is have the computer checked and check all of your wiring connections. Anytime you have a wiring connector on the exterior of the vehicle you can get corrosion issues it may be simply cleaning the connectors, placing dielectric grease on them and reattaching. Before cleaning any connectors always disconnect the negative battery terminal.

I have code P0704 transmission how can i diagnos and repair problem?

Well code 704 is usually found on vehicles with a manual trans. The code means the computer is not getting a signal from the clutch switch.
You may need to check a Caravan shop manual to find out if that code exists on automatic trans models.

Hi there,

The orientation of your transmission case (direction of the trans case cover) will determine if the trans can be worked on whilst still in the car, or whether it needs to be removed,.

If the transmission cover (which looks like an engine SUMP cover) is facing the ground, then the trans can be easily serviced while still in the car.

Behind the trans cover is what is called the Valve Body - this houses the critical components and usually the solenoids are all in there too.

Providing your vehicle's fault codes have been correctly extracted and have identified the correct solenoid, it will involve dismantling the trans cover & valve body to gain access to the solenoids.

I recommend you phone around various transmission specialists (usually a Dodge franchise would do this quicker) and ask them to quote you how much for:

1) cost of solenoid
2) cost of labour (ie how many hours)

I imagine the Labour cost is what where most of this expense is coming from, so I recommend you choose someone who has a working knowledge of the Dodge Caravan transmission.

Allowing someone who is unfamiliar with this model, to work on your vehicle, could end up costing you more labour than it should.

Cheers,

The speedometer is not working and the trans. seems like it's not going into 2nd

computer diagnostic will give you codes to repair vehicle better but sounds like you need to replace Vehicle Speed Sensor (Output Speed Sensor) On a 31TH TRANS sensor located near the transaxle extension housing, on the 41TE trans located between the module and the park/neutral switch (black)

Starts fine, dies when put in gear

since you are under the 2005 mini van column, you have a 3.8l v6 or 3.3l v6, with a 41te trans, Is this a high mileage vehicle, if so, you have a issue with the trans torque convertor locking up when put into drive, there is a valve in the vavle body causing this, its called TCC valve, they tend to stick if the trans has not been serviced at change intervals, only a experinced tech should attempt this, I assume this happens in rev to, even if you give a little of gas pedal before putting in gear,( drive), it still stalls, it is in the vale body. Iv'e seen this happen many times and expensive to fix. there must be a mill light on with a trans code. GOOD LUCK RDJRP

Shift solenoid B malfuction

All the solenoids in your 41TE trans are located in one part called the solenoid pack. It's located on the front of the trans, usually costs about 200 bucks for the part. This is likely the problem, but cannot rule out wiring issues without testing.

Po1776 and po700

po700 is transmission, If getting po1776 Solenoid Valve Switch. The Transmission Solenoid Pack needs to be replaced. This is on the top of the trans in the front, just below the lines & input speed sensor. $180 part # 5140429AA with gasket. 90% of 41te trans problems are with this ******, Gasket leaking $3 part at dealer. This can be done by any home mech
