Check for the shifter button problem - pull out on the button a little. if it pulls outward then it should be the same thing i experienced. at first i was able to correct this by pulling out on the button and inserting my finger under it. there is a thin metal rod in there that controls the shift cable. try pushing it back up a lil and keep the button as close to your inserted finger as you pull your finger back out. this worked well enough to get the vehicle back in gear so i could get the car home. i then pulled the button out of the shifter by inserting my finger again and carefully pulling on it. once that is out you can use your finger to pull the top of the shift cable upward and shift like you normally would.https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-xc90-9/help-my-xc90s-key-stuck-doesnt-shift-24908/

Make sure your battery terminals are clean, also, have the battery checked as well.
SOURCE: volvo xc90 key will turn from 0-1 but wont turn
Ok, this just happened in our 2000 V70. The key would turn to position 1, the srs light pops on, but the key refuses to turn to start the car and the shifter is stuck in park. I pulled the oil dipstick out, lightly coated the key on ALL sides, inserted it back into the ignition and turned it a little forcibly. It turned so I cycled it back and forth a few times and it was good to go. We were stuck so this was a last ditch attempt to get going....I would suggest using clean, 3 in 1 oil to lubricate the ignition.
