That's not the function of the ASD relay. The name is misleading. The relay is to turn things on for running the engine. It is controlled by the pcm. It will only signal that relay when the ignition key is turned to off.

the auto shut down relay is not like a fuse that can shut the engine off the name it has actually has not much to do with its function.. the relay is controlled by the computer .. its main function is to stop run-on and turns off o2 heaters power to coil and injectors if you had the key in the run position and engine not running your battery would dies faster than a drive in movie.. but anyway if your stalling and think its the relay failing just swap it with another one that looks the same from the PDC.. what you may have is a bad fuel pump or even a crank sensor have you had it scanned for codes? sometimes but not always you may have a code for lean upstream o2 if the pump is failing but not always.. and for the crank sensor you may have a crank shaft position sensor performance or cam/crank sensor code ..

SOURCE: Car cranks but won't start. Diagnostic code says

I changed all the parts I mentioned and finally I decided to try the crank shaft sensor and if that didn't work I was going to replace the cam shaft sensor. Luckily the crank shaft sensor worked but only after I replaced all the other parts. But at least now it finally started.

Thsank you.

SOURCE: 98 accord dies while driving for no apparent reason

It could be a number of things. These include: faulty coil wire, bad alternator, bad torque converter, bad computer, the ignition relay is giving out, a dirty and stuck idle control valve. It should be one of these problems. How to tell which one it is is to follow a systematic approach and test each indiviaul item/circuit.

Sounds like you have no readable engine rpm. Check your crank or cam sensor.

The van was running great, then all of the sudden it just died, the check engine light came on said it was crankshaft senser, put a new one on, ran good for a bit then did the same thing, put another one...

the shutdown relay does that. Check cooling system and
oil pressure sensor. engine gets too hot or not lubricated enough that the ECM tells the shutdown relay to shutdown the engine.

Auto shut down relay is clickin does it have a reset button an were is it

Please post: Year, Make, Model & Engine to help us help you.

I do not know of a 'reset button'

I had this same symptom happen when the van got hot where it would not restart. I had a solenoid going bad.

I was able to 'rap' on the solenoid to let it engage, get it started and back home so I could replace.
