Most modern spark plugs are pre-gapped. As long as you have the correct plugs for that vehicle and you have not changed the gap, you can fit them straight out of the box without setting the gap.

Either the sensor on the air filter needs to be cleaned. Easy. I've done it myself. Or one of the sensors, before and after the catalytic converter, needs to be changed. difficult.
