Hi John you haven't given much of a description of what is going on, I.e. if there are any noises at the door when locked or unlocked. There is a common issue well at least I have done a few. There is a pull rod from the hatch door catch to the lock actuator , this is secured by plastic clips which fracture and the rod swings away from either end. You have to remove the inner door panel to access this rod. If it's not this then I would suggest booking into a dealer. Use a plastic trim tool to remove the trim. You can buy a kit quite cheap and its worth the money, also when removing trim do it with care. Good luck

Bring it back to Circuit City, they tapped into a wire to the hatch lock and shorted it out, or cut it, they should fix it at no charge.

Your power door lock solienoid are going bad, they won't just go out completely unless if damaged physically, most cases sometime they work and other times maybe.
doorlock solienoid aren't expensive at all, just require tearing apart the door panel and the electrical connectors.

You need to tighten the lock mech on the boot lid. this will close the boot just enough more to turn the light on. It's no biggy, you might need a star driver depending on bolt head. move it into the boot lid approx 4mm to start. then 1mm until 10mm. if no joy then it may be the sensor.

my 06 tahoe just got this problem...all other doors lock and unlock with the fab and door switch...but the hatch is in permanent locked mode. i cant even unlock the hatch window. why is this happening?
