This is a very common problem on GM vehicles. The security system is notoriously known to fail. Basically when you insert your key, the system checks for a certain signal. If the system cannot get the correct signal from the key, it assumes the key is incorrect or you are attempting to hotwire it. The system then goes into SECURITY lockout mode. (prevents vehicle theft) This will either turn off the starter, or the fuel injectors. This has been happening with GM's for a very long time. There are ways to bypass this now. Read through this page for info, solutions as well.

If you turn the key to ON and leave it for 15 minutes it should relearn the key and be okay for a bit. The halo around the key hole is what usually goes bad. GM sell a kit that comes with a new lock tumbler and halo, but usually you just need to replace the halo. Then go thru the key relearn again and all should be good.

SOURCE: 2004 pontiac grand am car will not start

the security light will flash and disable the fuel injectors preventing the car from starting, if it thinks that it is being stolen. its easy to fix. set the parking brake to turn off the automatic headlights. next turn the key to the on position and wait ten minutes. the security light should stop flashing. then turn the key off and this will reset the security system. it should start immediatly afterwards.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 won't start.

You may have pulled a fuse on the security system and immobilizer. If that is the case, you need to reset.

Where is the fuel cut off switch on a 2004 grand am gt

The only manufacturer that uses a resettable "cut off" switch for the fuel pump is Ford.

Ok i replaced my chargingcoils my battery and my catalytic converter and my car still wont start. the problem is its that the car cranks like it wants to start but doesnt. now when i changed the battery...

A common problem on GM cars and trucks, especially grand ams (unfortunately) is the security system. They can actually close off fuel to injectors and turn off starters. I wonder if this might be your problem. Is there a light on your dash that says security when you put your key forward to start? If that light stays on, its the security system. Heres a link to a site with tons of info on it, and some solutions. Hope this helps. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

2004 pontiac grand am no start

if your fuel filter is plugged this will happen, but you may have a bad fuel pump,if you can a tester is about 20 dollars and there is a port to screw it on on the fuel rail at cranking you should have 50 to 59psi after start up you should have 3 to 6 psi lower, but just to test the security, turn key on for 10 minutes then shut off count to 5 and try to start it
