Sounds like a starter trying to go out on you. Apparently you have a dead spot or two on the stater (windings) inside the starter. Have you tried having someone turn the key while it won't start and you tap on the starter with a small hammer? Hitting it too hard will damage it. If it starts after one or two taps it more4 than likely is the starter for that jars it enough to make the stater move a bit to make contact and start the vehicle. Hope this gets you headed in the right direction. Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

SOURCE: 1997 Chevy Cavalier intermittent starting

I had the exact same problem on my 1998 Chevrolet 1500 c/k pickup. I also tried a new starter motor and solenoid assembly, but to no avail.

After weeks of searching for the problem, I found that corrosion had built up between the car battery terminals and the power cables extended from the car battery to the starter motor. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but it's worth a try. Also, check all other electrical connections, because these types of intermittent problems are often electrical.

SOURCE: '95 Saturn SL1 Intermittent Starting Problem

this is caused by burnt starter solenoid contacts, U can either replace the starter solenoid contacts (about $15) or u can replace the entire starter.

SOURCE: 95 jeep cherokee not starting

Check the small wire on the starter to see if you are getting 12v there with the key turned. If you are, then it is possible that the starter (&or solenoid) that checked out good last year is not good now. If no power at small wire, then check neutral safety switch.

When the truck wont start, bang on fuel tank to shake the pump. If it starts, replace fuel pump. 60 psi is what you should see with good pump. Less than 55 it wont start.

Have a 2002 Cadillac deville that has had a intermittant problem starting at times. Maybe one time every month or so you hit the key and the lights and power goes out but nothing !!! If you wait a while it...

Have you checked to see if there are any error codes with an OBDII reader? With those indications, there should be so errors generated. It will give us a place to start looking!

But if there isn't an error code - something is drawing maximum power, and it is probably the starter or starter solenoid.

2002 Taurus starts & then dies. After an hour, it is OK for weeks

put a volt meter on the battery when you get the problem to occur, I have run into intermittent problems and found that when cranking the battery voltage drops below 9 volts and when the voltage drops below 9 the pcm powertrain control module does not know what to do and will cause the problem you are talking about, if it drops below 9 volts check and clean power and ground connections and have you battery tested, your local autozone will test it for free, and most likely your battery is going bad. and auto zone installs batteries for free also.
