There are a couple ways to bleed a diesel after the tank runs dry. (1) You can try cycling the ignition key several times without starting the engine, only cycle to the run position. If that doesn't work? (2) CAUTION be very careful when starting a diesel this way "Very Careful" You can spray a very little amount of starter fluid into the throttle body "very Little" NOTE: If you spray to much you could possibly damage the engine. After causing the engine to start and run several times this way it finally should pick the fuel up and stay running. vehicles need three things to run. Spark / Fuel / and Compression. If it's true that there is no compression, the engine will not start. Run a compression test and verify there is compression. This is always the first thing you should do when diagnosing why an engine wont start.Good luck and most of all have fun and don't give up
Sounds like a vacuum leak. You should be able to hear it at your hoses and \or connections.Around the intake manifold you can spray brake cleaner at the gaps. If the idle changes then your on to something
Check the votage of the battery with a volt tester in the DC mode and the probes reversed ( black on red red on black) if a reading of voltages shows of any amount, the diode is bad in the altenator
The gauge could be wrong,it could be defective,have the alternator checked,at the battery,it should read from 13.65 volts to 14.25 volts with the head lights on,and the ac blower on high,with the engine running.If the alternator is new,check for 12 volts at the back of the alternator with engine off,if there is not 12 volts on the large wire,on the alternator,then the circuit is broken somewhere.Just install a new wire,of equal or larger size.Leave the original wire on the alternator,and just add a new wire,larger would be better if possible,and run it from the alternator,to the positive side of the battery,it will fix the problem.
It sounds like the same problem I have on occasion with my 1994 GMC Safari van. You need to check your AIC valve ( air intake control) it may be bottomed out wich is the reason it starts but will not stay running. Now I also have another possilbe solution ckeck to see if your catlist converter is not plugged . Not shure why but these are some of the solutions that I have for what happenes to my van . Hope this info can be of some help.
