I own a 2004 aveo. The rear passenger wheel will not turn. It was intermittantly locking up in the driveway a few times and then releasing. Now, the wheel has locked up and will not turn at all for over a week now. Is there a brake adjuster mechinism behind the wheel I can adjust so I can pull off the drum. Currently, it seems I can't even take off the drum as the brakes are full on that rear passenger wheel. Thanks Tom

Have you used the e-brake? If so try to rotate the e-brake around they sometimes get crroded insie the housing and stay applied. You can als try to hit the back of the drum with a hammer and it may free up.

Humming sound on passenger on rear side of 2004 ford escape

indicates a front wheel bearing failing
turning the steering wheel alters the sound indicates that the load on the wheel bearing changes with a change of direction
Also have the power steering pump checked as the noise could be pressure changes as you move the steering wheel

The rear passenger wheel is locked up

hi this sounds like you might have rear brake drum internal problems, does the parking brake work ok? what might of happened is that one of the brake shoes inside the drum/disk might have thrown its covering and has gone around inside the drum and locked the wheel up like the parking brake is on there really isn't anything else to go wrong that would cause that, you will need to remove the rear disk/drum if you can, as it could really be any internal part broken like a spring or the self adjuster...hope this helps please vote

My back right wheel locked why and what can I do

The exact same thing happened to my 2004 Aveo on the same side. I had it towed to the mechanics and they informed me that GM glues the shoes to the pads and when they seperate they jam up and that locks your wheel. I had to get new brakes on the back so I just did the entire car in case they were all like that. Hope this helps.

Passenger rear wheel locked up, 2004 Chevy Aveo LS, person said parking brake was stuck.. coiuld it have frozen that way?

This also happened to my 2004 Chevy Aveo. The drivers side rear wheel locked up when it first got extremely cold in December 2009. I had to change the rear wheel cylinder because it broke. They also found the rear wheel bearing also had to be changed. GM charges $180 for 1 rear wheel bearing. To make matters worse I had to order the whole backing plate which came with the rear wheel cylinder and a whole bunch of hardware.
If you look in the GM manual it says that you should flush and change your brake fluid every 24 months. My mechanic told me that moisture normal wrecks the brake cylinder. I'm not sure what happened to the wheel bearing but from now on I'll make sure to flush my brake fluid every 24 months.
