Not normal. You need the gearbox servicing at an authorised Jaguar LandRover dealership or qualified Auto Transmission workshop.

SOURCE: when does one engage the ''L'' gear when driving a mitsubishi rvr c

the L gear is Gear # 1 and likewise 2 is second gear, you utilise this in case you are going down on a slop especially icy or snow condition all it does is runs just on 1 or 2 respectively without changing whichh gieves more traction on the road.

My 2009 XF Jaguar just popped up a gear box error and is stuck in Drive

Switch off engine and it will reset as mine has done. Also my XF, got stuck in park and would not move with engine on. Remembered what I did with my first car ( Austin seven ruby) and got out and rocked the car front and back and the control knob just popped up. Am in Spain with my XF so am still worried about the sticking of the control knob problem.Have to get home at end of the month to UK and will wait until my return before contacting the garage.annekenward@sky.com

go to the vw dealer and tell the service advisor you want them to "reset basic settings on my transmission". i used to be a tech at a vw dealer and this fixes about 90% of all transmission shifting issues. they will charge you iether .5 or 1.0 hrs labor for this although it only takes about 5 minutes.
