SOURCE: My 2003 Mercury Mountaineer Gear Shift is stuck.

See if u have brake lights. This is what energizes the shifter solenoid. There are 2 fuses u can check both are in the under dash fuse panel. Fuse 23 (15amp) and fuse 26 (7.5amp).
To get it out of park turn igntion switch on stopping just short of engerizing the electronics then u should be able to get it out of park and into neutral.

SOURCE: GEAR STUCK ON PARK AND WON'T MOVE

I think your brake shift interlock solenoid is not releasing the Park position when you apply the brake.

Check for a blown fuse first. see owner manual for location of fuse.

Also, check owner manual for how to manually bypass the interlock.

When you step on the brake pedal, it activates a solenoid that unlocks the shift linkage cable so it will move. It is a safety feature to ensure you have you foot on the brake and not the gas, as you shift out of park.

please rate highly if this helps.

SOURCE: The gear shift is stuck in park. The wheel moves

Make sure you have brake lamps. The shift interlock solenoid is powered by the brake lamp switch.

2003 aviator won't go into gear

When you say the vehicle "won't go into gear," do you mean you cannot move the lever out of PARK, or do you mean that when you move the lever out of PARK the transmission will not engage?
If the lever will not move out of PARK, check your BRAKE LIGHT fuse, your BRAKE LIGHT switch, and the SOLENOID at the shift mechanism.
If your lever moves out of PARK easily (too easily), it is possible that your shift linkage has broken or come loose.
If your lever moves out of PARK normally but the transmission does not engage, it's time to have the car towed to the transmission repair shop.

Ford ranger, gears are in a different position, Reverse is in the neutral, neutral is in the D and drive is in 2nd gear........dont' know how it happened...was driving and noticed it was in the 2 position....

on the side of the tranny where your shiftier cable connects to your linkage with a plastic piece that will either be broke or has slid to the side if it has only slid to the side and the groves on both plastic pieces are good then you will need a friend to help with adjustment to get it back to where it is supposed to be easiest way to adjust is to put tranny linkage in park then have friend move leaver and hold leaver wile sliding plastic pieces together to lock them into place.

2001 passat auto shift i have to put it in drive to get it in reverse and 3 to get it in drive the key is also stuck

It sounds to me that your linkage on the transmission is out of adjustment. If it is as you described, then Neutral should be park. To fix this problem, you need to shift the car all the way into park, (set your parking break. Add wheel chalks if possible.) Locate the shifter linkage on the transmission,(either under the hood, or under the car) loosen the lock screw/s on the linkage. move the linkage on the transmission either direction.(you should feel the clicks of the gears) Park gear, is typically all the way opposite the direction the linkage is inserted. Click the selector all the way until it stops rotating. Then tighten the screw/s. Try your shifter now, you should feel the gears click smoothly into place. Hope this helps.

2001 sabb 9-5 will not go into park

The shift linkage and gear selector/neutral safety switch are integrated into a small flat unit on top of the transmission located under the battery tray which has 4 bolts 10mm to remove. The shift lever is exposed when the tray is removed and may be obstructed by something that has fallen in its path like loose wire harness, work glove, you name lt. Check all fuses in fuse box then visually inspect the movement with a helper moving the shifter. The shift mechanism itself may be worn out and happens frequently. Good luck.

Gear Stuck in Parking

linkage jamed up / obstructed ? Try blocking the wheels and having someone IN THE CAR with their foot on the brake , and climb under the hood and disconect the shift linkage. Try moving it by hand. If this works , then the linkage should be looked at , it is probably a cable linkage and can be replaced with a salvage yards for cheap enough.
