Tested the MAP sensor and it is fine. Looked for the EGR valve and I could not find it. (Really need some help)
Vacuum leak spray carb cleaner on the vacuum lines while engine is running when you spray wait a second to see if the engine changes. and that's the leak area, can also be the manifold gaskets. also there is a module connected to the butterfly arm on the intake this may need removing and spraying some switch cleaner in the breather hole on the bottom and shaking it about and moving the link around to clean it.

Hi since you have code 34 you need first to troubleshoot the code. A shorted vehicle speed control solenoid can cause troubles that affect not only the speed control function. The speed control is connected to the PCM a short in wiring, a problem with VSS, a defective PCM may return an error 34. Try using speed control, and see if any of conditions below occurs. If speed control is working but vehicle is surging test for condition 2.
If there is no speed control , then go straight to the end and test MAF, fuel pressure (pump/pressure regulator) and the evap system. If there are no vacuum leaks those are among most common causes of surges with no codes. Check in any case wiring to VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and PCM connectors. Do test on PCM even if the vehicle has no speed control.
1) SPEED CONTROL ACCELERATING BY ITSELF
Check for diagnostic trouble codes. If you get code 34 perform the following test:
Do the speed control switch test on the RESUME/ACCEL switch (use VOM to read Ohms)
If it fails, replace switch.
If it passes, disconnect the 4 way connector at servo. Test continuity of pin 1 to ground to test for intermittent short. Wiggle wires while preforming test.
If continuity to ground, repair wiring.
If no continuity to ground, replace PCM.
2) SPEED CONTROL SLOWING DOWN BY ITSELF
Test vehicle speed sensor, Refer to If sensor fails replace sensor, if it passes perform the following test:
1. Perform the speed control switch test on the SET/COAST switch, if it fails replace switch.
2. If the switch passes, conduct the vacuum supply test.
3. If it passes, conduct the servo vacuum test, if it fails replace servo.
4. If passed, test continuity on pin 2 of connector to PCM pin 80 for intermittent open. Wiggle wires while performing this test. If continuity to pin 80, repair harness for open.
5. If no continuity, replace PCM.
3) SPEED CONTROL NOT RESUMING
Perform the speed control switch test on the RESUME/ACCEL switch. If the switch fails replace switch.
1. If switch passes, check continuity from RESUME/ACCEL switch connector pin 1 to pin 31 of 40 way connector at PCM. Check for intermittent open circuit, wiggle wires while performing test.
2. If intermittent open, repair circuit.
3. If continuity is ok, preform continuity test from pin 1 of RESUME/ACCEL switch connector to ground. Check for intermittent short, wiggle wires while performing this test.
4. If shorted, repair harness for short.
SPEED CONTROL WILL NOT SLOW DOWN
Check for diagnostic trouble codes. If code 34 or no code present, perform the following test:
1. Conduct the speed control switch test on the resume SET/COAST.
2. If it fails, replace switch.
3. If it passes use an ohmmeter to test continuity between pin 2 of SET/COAST switch connector and ground. Wiggle wires while preforming test. If no continuity repair circuit.
4. If continuity, test continuity between pin 1 of SET/COAST switch connector and pin 41 of the PCM 40 way connector. Wiggle wires while preforming test. If no continuity repair circuit.
5. If continuity, disconnect the servo connector. Test continuity from pin 2 of connector and ground to test for intermittent short. Wiggle wires while preforming test. If continuity repair circuit.
6. If no continuity, conduct the servo vacuum test. If it fails, replace servo.
7. If it passes, replace the PCM
IF SPEED CONTROL, VSS AND PCM WIRING ARE OK:
Check fuel pressure using a gauge attached to fuel lines. Check MAP sensor wiring and clean sensor. Clean generally air intake. Replacing MAP sensor could be a good idea.
If possible try putting into neutral when the engine start jerking, before it surges check TPS.
Check the evaporative emission purge solenoid. Test it using a VOM and make sure that the valve is not stuck open, eventually replace the solenoid. Check PCV valve and the whole evap system. That is often causing the surge. See document here:Jeep Cherokee 1984-1998 Evap System.
