Hi Vince unfortunately you haven't given to much information.

The majority of viva's I have seen have been automatic If this is the case you need to have it diagnosed by someone who repairs auto transmissions. Tests need to be carried out by a diagnostic tester.
If manual gearbox It would be very strange for it to slip badly only in reverse .
I am going to assume it is auto trans as I've not seen a manual.
Good luck

Holden viva 2006 transmission problem

The only way to diagnose is electronically by asking an auto electrician to scan it with a pro grade scan tool computer. They can also record what is happening on a drive! It sounds a mess for sure, mechanical and electrical and the computer can diagnose both.

My holden viva won't go into reverse or park it feels like it is stuck

hi, if the shifter goes into drive, it shows that the cable isn't seized. The cable has probably come out of the locator on top of the trans. If the shifter won't move at all, the cable maybe seized. A job for the experts.

My holden viva 2008 manual cannot put into reverse

as the 5th gear and reverse gear are on the same shifter rail the there may be a problem with the selector fork for reverse gear. Undo the bolts that hold the shifter turret to the box and see if the reverse selector moves when you use a lever to move the rail

Locating fuel filter on holden viva

It is just in front of the drivers side rear wheel underneath the car. New one should cost you about $30 from super-cheap. I own a viva and I have actually seen it. This is on a hatch may be different on yours.

Holden Viva- Automatic transmission troubles.

Hey mate, Had exactly the same problem. Suggest you take the car to your local auto transmission repair centre (not holden) and they can check the electrical diagnostics - if it the Transmission inhibitor Switch (as it was on mine - if so should cost you no more than 1 hour labour and about $75 - $95 for the switch.
