I would look to see if the anti-theft light is on next to the door lock. A 95 cabrio did this when I was test driving it. All we did was get out of the vehicle and manual lock and unlock the car, then it went away. This could definitely be more complicated than this, but always worth a try.

When you choose an indie shop though, make SURE they're a Euro specialist. You honestly don't want a guy working on your high-tech turbo engine when he spends his days wrenching on Mustangs and Chevy trucks. As for whether you have to do it - yes you do. The turbo is an integral part of the car and the car won't run well at all (and will likely degrade further) if you don't fix it.

a very common fault is the switch,the calipers are not much better,they will be able to sort it for you but they are bad news for a modern car !!

My 2004 v6 2wd highlander has the same battery, and I am just now replacing it. What is that 7 years? I found via google that it has 550 CCA. I think it would have lasted longer if not for kids leaving lights on every few weeks and an unusually cold winter for this far south.
