Installed an afterm ultra power intake cam sensor on my bmw 325i. Car starts initially then won't start. Took out and reinstalled original and at least it starts. Why is the new sensor not working?

The computer code shows sensor with intermittent signals before replacing with new sensor.

Mr.Ramage as an Automotive mechanic with many years experience happened and still happening this issue for a new electronic part to work for just once and never again,or just bought put on not working and try for another one. Mostly the aftermarket parts - not all - depends where come from are on balance to good and no good. Are Electronics. The same happened with tvs, mobiles, toys etc.

SOURCE: My 2002 BMW 325I will not start in cold weather.

hi Fred, kind of sounds like you have a sticking, or contaminted idle valve. when it is 40-45F outside, a sticking or contaminated valve will cause the fuel mixture to be to rich. as the temp warms, the mixture requirement is not as rich. a quick check is to hold the gas pedal to the floor for 5-10 seconds when cranking cold and then let up. if it seems like it wants to start, the valve is faulty.

It sounds stupid, but check the tail light sockets. My 5 series had all sorts of electrical problems and when I replaced defective tail light sockets, most of the problems disappeared.

SOURCE: 2003 stratus cam sensor replaced still unresolved

you bypassed the wires that connect to the sensors? that would have been my first guess the harness that plugs into the sensor. after that i would check the ground connection from the ecm. wouldn't hurt to check the battery posts too. if the battery posts are oxidized you can have all kinds of goofy electrical problems. hope that helps.

im a tech in the bronx and i dealt with the same code for the misfire. burt i realized that there wasnt any power to the coil of #2 cylinder. I replaced the sensor mounted on top of the air filter box, which solved this problem.

Why are you convicting the idle control valve? was it properly diagnosed? Could be coolant sensor, intake sensor,O2 sensors etc. Check it out first.

2008 jetta will not start after putting new o2 sensors and maf sensor

Was the car starting before you installed the new components? if so reinstall the original MAF sensor and retry. May be a faulty MAF. The O2 sensors will not cause a no start condition, but the MAF will. Also be sure the connections between the MAF and intake are sealed, no other air can be allowed to get in between the MAF and intake.

Need to find the loction of camshaft position sensor for BMW 325I

need more info. size of engine and year. You have an exhaust sensor and a intake if you have duel variable cams. The exhaust is located in front towards the top inbetween the radiator cap area on the engine. The intake is located on the intake side about where #1 cylinder is under the intake. Your going to most likely have to move the oil filter housing and the cam position motor out tof the way to access. Only replace the part with a dealer part. If you don't and the light does not go off you will be kicking yourself because you won't know if it was because of a inferior part. I went thru this with my 2000 528i

Timing mark alignment for 92 bmw 325i 2.5L how do I align these sprockets. the ones on the exhaust cam are somewhat adjustable.

your cams have a what looks like a square on them . find it and face them with the dimples on them up. then use a flat edged ruler to make sur you have them right. then turn no.1 cylinder top dead center. then take and put your chain on your exhaust sprocket and point the dimple up do the same with the intake. tighten down the torx bolts and recheck! it took me 3 times but its better than the $300+ tools and car runs great. if need be look up some of the e36 groups on line.
