The starter does not click or turn when the key is turned. Started fine and then did not when I was visiting a friend and has not started since.
Could be the starter solinoid not working.
The starter relay or ignition switch may cause this problem . Try starting it with the headlights on where you or a helper can see if the headlights go real dim . Post back .
Did you try arcing the starter direct. Find the small wire that leads to the starter solenoid thats usually mounted directly on top of the starter motor. Once yoube located this wire try and connect it momentarily directly to the positive battery terminal. If it cranks turn on the key and see if you can start the car that way . If it runs you most likely have a bad ignition if it doesent do anything means a bad starter
There may be a short. You can take and turn your ignition on as if starting it and take a good sized wire from your positive battery lead to the starter to see if it will make the solenoid activate. The Jeep I used to have got mud and gunk in the starter and I replaced the starter because it still wasn’t reliable after cleaning it.

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.

Could be one of several items...I'd check the fuel pump relay, auto shutdown relay and the ignition switch itself. I'd bet on it being one of those relays but, we all have been fooled at least once!!! I'd also make sure that body and engine grounding is good and clean. Relays can't work properly without a good ground.
Used parts such as starters and altinators don't last. It might **** but it sounds like you need to buy a new starter, altinator, and battery. Or just start with buying one at a time.

Try turning the heater blower motor on high with key on and see if it blows good and strong .
