How to replace fuel pump in 2008 chevy cobalt PZEV

I know I have to remove fuel tank, but the pump seems bolted inside the tank.

  • Anonymous Sep 16, 2018

The video from Steve Sweetleaf does not address the PZEV (Partial Zero-Emissions Vehicle) Cobalts. These have a much different fuel system that doesn't use the typical module and does not have the external filter. There is a typical round access to the tank but the pump/filter, the gas guage sending unit and other parts are mounted to the interior floor of the tank.

SOURCE: fuel pump or fuel pump relay on 1989 Chevy Suburban 1500 4x4

the relay and fuse are in the power distribution box under the hood. as far a by pass you still can use an aftermarket electric pump ,however the cost will be about the same as re3moving the old pump in the tank if that is the cause in the first place. if all you need is the relay replaced then i'm sure that the pump is still good. if the pump is bad then make sure if you by pass the in tank pump that the new under hood electric pump has enough pressure to give the needed gpm(gallons per minute) required for your system and that if wired into the current fuel circuit that you dissconnect the wire harness to your tank pump

SOURCE: i am trying to remove my fuel tank from a 96 chevy suburban and replace the fuel pump

ok i'm going to guess that you have a gasoline engine with a side tank like in a pickup truck. if you have a diesel let me know, things might be a little different. here's the step by step for a gas side tank. before you start, disconnect the battery negative cable.
1. drain the fuel from the tank (they don't tell you how, just get as much out as you can)
2.raise and safely support vehicle (get it high enough that you can get under it to work on it)
3.loosen the fuel neck hose at fuel neck and disconnect filler neck from tank
4.support tank and remove tank support straps and insulator strips
5.remove frame mounted bracket
6.lower fuel tank shield
7.lower fuel tank enough to gain access to fuel and electrical connections
8.disconnect fuel feed and vapor hoses
9.disconnect electrical connectors
10.remove fuel sender assembly and seal ring
now to install new tank
1.install NEW seal ring and install sender
2.raise tank enough to connect fuel feed /vapor hoses and electrical connector
3.raise tank fully
4.install fuel tank shield
5.connect fuel tank filler neck and tighten clamp
CAUTION tighten fuel strap fasteners in steps, alternating between straps, until proper torque is reached. failure to properly follow this step can cause bottom of tank to deform. fuel gauge may read improper level if this occurs
6.install fuel tank brackets and insulator strips
torque nuts to 115 in-lbs
7.install fuel tank filler cap
8.connect battery negative cable
9.turn ignition switch off and on and check for leaks
it's pretty much the same for rear tank, just different location, may have off-road shield in back and torque spec is 47 ft-lbs, not 115 in-lbs. you still have to alternate when you torque straps or you risk deforming tank. hope that helps

Where is the fuel pump on a 2008 chevy cobalt

It's in the Gas Tank, For Sure. If there's no access panel from above(in the rear seat/cargo area of the car/trunk) then you'll have to remove the tank but no worries if so- it's pretty simple. Good Luck & Have A Great Day! Click hroful if this helped you out at all, I'd appreciate the feedback.

Where is the fuel filter on a 2008 dodge avenger

There IS no fuel filter on a Dodger Avenger with the 2.4L PZEV....it's an integral part of the fuel pump. Remove the rear seat bench, and you'll see a black plastic cover on the left (driver's) side. Pry that open, and you'll see the top of the fuel pump and a black retainer ring. Knock down all the tabs to release the pump and seal, remove, replace with a new pump and seal, replace retainer rain, all is good. Unless you somehow get a lot of dirt and water in your fuel, the integral filter's good for at least 100K miles. By that time, your pump's just about shot anyway, so change it out then, along with the spark plugs.

My 2008 chevy malibu fuel gauge dose not read only some times when its a full tank the gauge is dead but about 1/4 tank it reads but gos in and out ?

this is caused by a defective gas gage sending unit, the sending unit is part of the fuel pump module inside the gas tank, the gas tank must be removed to replace the fuel pump module that also contains the sending unit.

Need to replace fuel pump on a 1992 chevy truck.

the easy way is to remove the three screws at the filler neck then look under truck at backside of filler neck and remove the one bolt holding ground strap then go to rear drivers side and unhook the wire harness for the rear lights simple just one connector for lights then there is a ground wire right at the connector you just unhooked bolted to frame rail remove it on the frame along both sides you will find 4 17mm or 18mm bolts remove all 8 bolts have some friends grab bed on both sides pick up bed and walk backwards one or two feet let area in front of wheels sit on rear tire area behind wheels will sit on bumper look down right behind cab on drivers side and you will see the fuel pump in top of tank i know this sounds like a lot but believe me it,s easier than lowering that tank and having to undo lines and what not laying on ground under truck you will be able to service pump standing up in good light conditions

I have the exact same problem with my 2006 chevy cobalt right now. That's why I am searching this. I had a mechanic friend look at it and it's the fuel pump and the lines are cracked to. Has anyone heard of a recall on this? It can't be a coincidence that we are having the same issue.

1996 chevy suburban maybe fuel pump problems

yes it's in the fuel tank....................Drop the tank and the rest is easy.
Getting the Gas out before dropping the tank can prove to be a pain but after that is done the rest is easy.(best to run it a empty as possible) Two straps hang the tank. Remove the strap bolts and the tank will come undone. Remove the filler hoses, disconnect the power leads and the fuel lines and the tank is free. The pump comes out by twisting a ring.then remove the pump and replace then reverse the earlier steps to reinstall
