Also, check the neutral safety switch - Put your foot on the brake and put the car in neutral. Then try to start it. If it starts the neutral safety switch is bad. It could be the ignition switch. It could be to starter solenoid. Does it have an inertia switch? They rarely go bad but I have seen it.
check your wiring harness that plugs into the coil pack and see if the wires are melted or showing. i have a 92 and the wires melted together and it was doing the same thing and it also could be your coilpack or your ignition control module (icm)
Lots of possibilities. If the alternator was not putting out 14 volts or more when reved up, then the battery could be draining as you drive. But then you would still get a click from the soleniod, and jumping would work.
My best guess would be dirty battery terminals, since they can rapidly change with chemical reactions. They should be taken off, brushed shiny and greased.
But starters can fail from heat. Another possibility is a safety switch could be bad, like neutral safety or clutch safety switch. Try neutral instead of park. And the anti-theft system is also possible.
