SOURCE: abs light on

I'm a Ford service adviser. There are many reasons for the
abs warning indicator to come on. The usual cause is from a
faulty speed sensor. Either a wheel speed sensor or the
differential speed sensor. I don't think the light is related to your vandalism. You might want to take the truck to an auto parts store and have them read the codes for you. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.
Good Luck

SOURCE: ABS Light and Parking brake light on

check your fuses, then check the ABS valve located beside the master cylinder and the wiring to it and finally check your speed sensor, which is located on the transmission on a 2 wheel drive and on the transfer case on a 4 wheel drive. but make sure hat your E-brake is released as it will cause these lites to come on.

SOURCE: ABS brakes grunt, groan noise with brake pedal travel.

Joe it is common for the brakes to moan when they wear down and sometimes they will squeak, try replacing the front pads and lubing the shafts on the calipers install anti squeal on the back of the pads, the ABS device would not cause noise as they are just a ring with a magnet and the reluctor ring spins and the magnet detects the spinning of the reluctor ring, they don't even touch and are stationary in place where they are mounted. There is a possibility that the brake fluid is dirty and could cause the abs motor to groan but you would just have to flush the system, When you don't put your foot in it on the brakes it will make some noise even new, I have a 2008 ford ranger that makes the same noise and the brakes are fine. You will have to adjust your braking habits to stop the noise. You can change the pads and that will help but not for long, be sure when you are operating your brakes press firmly on the pedal until you stop. If the brakes make noise after you let up on the pedal then the caliper parts need to be cleaned and lubed, however it is not a safety issue.

SOURCE: ABS light & brake light on, problems with speedo working properly

The rear wheel speed sensor is the most common problem on those trucks and will do what you are talking about. It is located at the top of the rear axle in the center. It picks up it's signal from a tone ring on the diff inside! If a tranny input or output sensor is bad then the tranny won't shift properly!

Replace a wheel speed sensors

is this a question?
my guess is you have brake errors.
and ABS errors and did not post them.
the ABS can infact be scanned, do so first.
or inspect the sensor that fails but first first is the brake inspection
as no ABS works RIGHT, in the world with bad brakes,
look at he failing sensor with eyes, is it damaged, or dirty. (in details)

Anti lock brakes working all the time and brakes not working properly

Faulty ABS sensor in the front wheel hub. Inspect the ABS sensor in the front wheel hub, your going to have one in each side so inspect both of them. Common for the sensors to pick up dirt giving faulty signal or no signal at all giving the impression that the wheels are not moving.
Start with the simple and inspect the ABS sensor and wire leads. Replace any worn or damaged parts.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe, you can for the time being. Remove your ABS fuse to keep the ABS from working so you have 100% brake control.
Common to have build up of rust on the sensor, which once removed should fixed the issue.
#PIT3707: Information on the Upcoming Safety Recall 05068 Front Wheel Speed Sensor Corrosion - keywords ABS activation brake campaign sensor speed unwanted - (Sep 1, 2005)
1999-2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:

These vehicles may experience unwanted antilock brake system (ABS) activation and increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications (greater than 3.7 mph but less than 10 mph). This condition does not set any ABS codes nor does it illuminate the ABS warning lamp. This condition is more likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas, based on field report data from the U. S. and Canada.
To correct this condition, dealers are to remove the wheel speed sensor and thoroughly clean the wheel speed sensor mounting surface on the bearing, apply Zinc-X (rust inhibitor) to the cleaned surface, grease the mounting surface, reinstall the wheel speed sensor, and check the peak-to-peak output voltage to ensure the wheel speed signal is within specifications. These repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.
Approximately 804,000 vehicles are involved. GM is working with its suppliers to obtain the required parts as quickly as possible. Based on the anticipated schedule, we plan to begin notifying customers about this recall in November 2005.
GMVIS information for this recall will not be available until the recall bulletin is released to dealers in November 2005.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Do not attempt any repairs until Campaign 05068 is released.

Brake pedal a.b.s pulsation at slow speeds on dry road.It wont do it all the time. It is on a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 4x4. I can hear the abs kick in when this happens.

You may see the abs light come on in your dash. I would plug a OBD II reader in and retrieve the codes.
I would say you either have a sensor that has gone bad or possibly a wire is shorting.
You can see the wheel sensor if you turn your wheels, and look down by the wheel hub bearing.
You can here the abs go whrrrrrrrr, when you step on the brake, and your braking flucuating.
Please let me know what you find.

If you can test the car without the ABS module to ensure that the ABS is not the cause of the problem, If you have a spare module you can have it replaced for a while to test if the module is faulty,

03 Chevy 2500HD Service Brake System Warning

When you replaced the ABS sensor on the hub, did you clean and re-gap the sensor to the speed ring on the hub. There was a recall on the ABS Malfunction on your truck. The tire size don't make a difference to your ABS as long as all four tires are the size, There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin. 2001 Chevy Silverado anti-lock brakes activate on dry pavement, the pedal pulsates, the typical anti-lock brake sound is heard, and the truck feels like it is not going to stop at times

One of the sensors has gone bad and needs to be replaced, the other thing to that would also do that is the ABS sensor is dirty or needs to be re gaped to the speed ring on the hub. There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Antilock brake system engages on low speed stops on dry pavement on my 2004 Silverado.

The most likely cause is rust buildup under wheel speed sensors causing them to dislodge(lift up) from front hubs and read incorrectly. If recall has been performed to fix this problem...You may have to replace the appropriate hub in order to stop the ABS activation at low speeds. Let me know if i can help more.
