I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Wires for trailer hookup don't match trailer wiring harness. How do I get them to match up?

Jeep wiring; eight wires, four smaller gauge all white each having a yellow, green, blue or brown stripe, four larger, two black, one green, one red with white stripe. Trailer harness; four wires, yellow (turn signal/brake), white (ground), green (opposite turn signal/brake), brown (tail/running/license plate lights).

You can buy an adapter from the larger connector to the smaller one and all will be alright. Most parts houses have the adapter. Also you might find it at a super walmart

SOURCE: no tail lights

check to make sure you have park light power coming out of truck connector, if you do then check power at trailer lamp, may have bad bulbs, there two filaments in a bulb one for brake/signal and thr other for park lights.

SOURCE: Here's my problem...My truck has four wires for my

Well you have what is called a BUGGER.5 dont go into 4 so the problem is either the trailer is OLD and never had stop lights OR the white wire is your stop lights and it earths through the towball (but it shouldent ) so either someone has cut out the stop light wire .so check rear lights What colour is stoplight wire. As all DC wiring for trailers are 5or 7 core wires 5 for trailers and 7 for caravans..

I am not getting power to my trailer lights on my 1998 jeep grand Cherokee

I would unplug the wire harness and check the contacts. Even if the contacts look good , Scrape them shiny then spray with electrical parts cleaner then grease lightly with dielectric grease. Also check where your ground wire goes - or maybe you'll want to run a test ground wire from the harness to the trailer to ensure a proper ground. 95% of the time the ground is the issue in trailer lights. Good luck!!!

Where do i hook a trailer wireing harness up on a 04 grand cherokee

Hi John,

I'm not sure about the 2004, but my 86 Cherokee has a wire bundle beneath the rear bumper. A test light and yelling to a friend in the drivers seat made wire identification pretty easy. (I don't get up that easy any more from a prone position ;0)

AND this will help with the actual hookups.

Click here for a cheat sheet I wrote when I finally got tired of looking up wire colors.

Best regards
Mike

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited - flasher relay location

More than likely you have a bad ground. Under the rear of the vehicle, behind the rear bumper there will be a few wires running to a bolt in the frame (left side i think) Check that no wires are loose or boken. Also if you have a trailer wiring harness, check to see if it has not been damaged. Let me know if this helps :)
