Check the trans fluid level and whether the fluid is red and clear or burnt looking like oil. You might want to relist this problem with more information. Like if trans will shift into forward or reverse, if all forward gears work, does the trans downshift upon stopping, does it make noise, will the engine rev up and the car just stands there, etc.
A bad torque converter is the link between the engine and the transmission. It usually is either good or bad and not intermittent. If you relist by answering the above items another Expert may be able to solve this for you.
Check fluid and fluid level if smells burnt and looks burnt can try fluid and filter change if its good internal damage that will need to be diagnostically checked by a specialist

Yes,
There are i think two switches, a Nuetral switch which help helps you start your car, and a cruise/hi speed switch for highway driving.

SOURCE: flasher relay in a 98 mercury grand marquis?
The fuse block the relay is located in is behind the knee bolster, the trim panel under the steering column, left of the steering column underneath the dash. Common source of problems if that does not fix it is the Light Control Module ( LCM), turn signal switch unit, headlight switch.
