No the freon is low around 80 lbs but the compressor won't start to pump in freon.

No A/C system holds 80 lbs . or are you talking about static pressure , Looking at manifold gauges . How do you know that's low , if the system is running ? The compressor isn't kicking in ?

needs looking at because it could be switch that allows it to turn on if sufficient gas is present ,or a problem with the clima compùter ,but to do anything you will need the special machine to empty the system then check things out so take to an authorised AC garage ,because these systems are a potential accident and you could lose a finger with frostbite in a matter of less than 2 seconds .therefore i will not tell you how to look for a soloution because of the dangerous nature of playing with air con

SOURCE: how many lbs. of freon for 2000 chevy silverado 2500 5.3ltr.

actual system charge is 1.8 lbs later models went to 1.6lbs

Either the system is still low of freon,or the sensor (one of them)is bad.The sensors are on the high side of the system,liquid line.If you will get on chat,I can help you with this,it will take a while,I will need to know how much freon was added.And what the system is doing,is the ac clutch engaging,etc?Ask for ronicon,when you click on chat with,type my name in,roniecon,with your text,that you are writing .

Did you replace the expansion valve?
Also try adding just a little more freon and see if that makes a difference....is there a sight glass you can view with the system activated to be sure you have it completely air free?

yes it can. this may mean the death of the compressor is inevitable, has been filled with the wrong refrigerant/lubricant, or it is low on refrigerant. you have to determine what type of refrigerant is needed, (usually R12 or R134) and use the correct lubricant, if the refrigerant does not have the lubricant already in it. every time a compressor is filled with refrigerant, it also needs th be filled with lubricant, and most, but not all, commercial refrigerants include lubricant. if there is a leak in your system, you can use soapy water in a spray bottle to find the leaky hose/connection.

How much freon does my 2003 kia sorento take?

Depends on system condition. If system is fully evacuated it is one amount and less for the varying degrees of gas that may already be in there.

To refill with correct amount just keep putting gas in there till your suction line registers about 30 lbs, with engine constantly running at about 3000 rpm at an ambient of around 80 degrees. If no gauges keep filling until suction line to compressor gets cold and starts to sweat - then stop!

Ac compressor cycling with no cool air blowing inside

Depending on how much freon is in the system, it could be a faulty low pressure switch or a faulty clutch.
You would jumper the low pressure switch to eliminate it for a test.

I have ingaged my ac clutch i cant get the air cold i have put freon in it but it wont take more that 35 lbs any ideas

I sure hope you don't mean 35 lbs of freon !
When the ac compressor is running, the low side will read 30-45 psi under normal conditions. The high side should be around 250psi.
You need to be able to check both low and high to see if the system is full of freon. It holds around 4 or 5 cans total depending on make and model. Thats about 3 lbs.

I have driven 80K miles so far in 12 years. All of a sudden AC stopped producing cold air. All vents when turned ON only blow heat (HOT-AIR only). AUTO switch only lights up when temperature is increased...

The temp is controlled by a flap called an air door. It could be an electric motor/actuator, a vacuum control or a manual cable but the door is likely not closing all the way and allowing air to pass through the heater core. ----------
There are few possibilities needs to be checked.------ The Freon, is the Freon low.Get the AC pressure tested.The low pressure switch towards the Accumulator, should show 35 to 45 lbs and high pressure switch should show Approx 80 to 100 lbs,------- But if freon level is fine then get the Hvac module inspected.Its module problem , This is the module in the dash board that has all of the A/C control knobs and buttons in it. It is very easy to remove; only 4 screws have to come out first.This module fails or shorts and cause this problem.------ But first check the freon level, if its low then its low freon problem.Get the pressure tested, if no pressure showing then by pass low pressure switch via jumper and see if compressor runs.If yes then replace the low pressure switch.But if all checked ok, then its HVAC module.--------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Ac won't get cold anymore power to compressor but won't click on clutch won't engage possible problems are compressor or evaporator what do you think?

Has the Freon been checked with a gauge to see if there is enough Freon to allow the system to work. Low or no Freon will not allow the compressor to engage. The low pressure switch is most likely activated due to low freon, and will cause this condition.

The specification for your A/C system capacity according to Mitchell Online is 1.25 Lbs. Anyway you look at it, freon level is not the issue unless there is too much dye and oil in your system. Personally, I HATE that dye stuff. The system usually gets overcharged with oil when techs use that stuff and that can cause extremely high pressures and low performance. It is much better for the customer's A/C system as well as faster and more efficient to use an electronic leak detector to find system leaks. I don't understand why the tech felt that dye was necessary in the first place. If the system is not low on freon, the problem is clearly NOT being caused by a leak in the system...so WHAT was the dye for??? It is also not necessary to pump the freon out of the system to determine if the system is under-charged. That is what the manifold gauge set is for.
OK I'll get off my soap box to answer your question...

Yes, there are other possibilities. Without the high side pressure readings, it is hard to say for sure, but Toyotas are known for the expansion valves getting stuck and causing high low-side readings. If the low side is high and the high side is low, this is usually the case. (Freon flowing too fast through the evaporator)

P.S. A/C compressors don't "pull down" they "pump out". This may sound like a matter of semantics, but there truly IS a difference, and if you want to understand what is going on with your system, it has to be looked at this way

One more little tidbit of information:
Your A/C system is computer controlled and capable of outputting fault codes for certain types of system malfunctions. Did the tech even bother to check for fault codes? I'll bet not!

My air condition is not blowing cold air

best diagnostic method is dual head gauges. balanced pressure between low and high side in the off position is aroung 90 lbs. running low pressure is 20-40 lbs and high pressure 160-200, is the compressior not coming on? does it stay on, or click on and off. either might mean the freon level is low. try unplugging the low pressure switch on the low side supply line and shorting the pigtail wires together with a paper clip. does the compressor stay on now? if so and the air is warm or cool, freon is low. if the air is cold that switch is bad. if compressor still won't come on the list of possibilities grows longer: compressor, comp fan clutch, AC relay, restriction at several places... repair shop time...

Low/high side A/C compression reads the same

Why was the compressor diagnosed bad?Did it send anything into the system that may have blocked a line?Did you flush the complete system?
I would have started the compressor by jumping the low side switch to make sure it could pull a good vacuum before adding any 134a.
You may have a blocked system with debris/grindings from the old compressor?
The replacement expansion tubes may be blocked now,were the old ones clean?
Make sure you have good air flow through the condenser when refilling the system.
Does the new compressor sound like it's working correctly?
I still want to see it pull a good vacuum first.

How many pounds of r134 and how much oil ozs.

somewhere around 1.6 pounds (1lb.14ounces) of R134a if system is evacuated and 3 ounces of oil with new compressor.
keep pressure on the low side around 34-37psi & it should blow snow. Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A.
  • Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI
  • Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI –
  • Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI
Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.
DIY recharge kit:
With the AC on the coldest setting, use a thermometer in a middle vent. Normal vent temperature readings will vary depending on the (ambient) outside temp. The vent temperature should range from around 42-55 degrees in my experience. If normal gauge readings are obtained and the vent air is cold – STOP don’t overcharge the system.
