How Clockspring Works
SOURCE: steering wheel audio controls wires
those controls will only work with your factory audio unit not aftermarket ( it has an interphase )
SOURCE: steering wheel controls
Replace the clock spring, or check all the cabling and plugs first. If you are inexperienced take it to an auto electrician, otherwise do it yourself but disconnect the negative battery terminal for 2 minutes prior to opening the steering wheel to check the plugs, as not doing so could cause the airbag to go off. In addition you can also take out the airbag fuse. Check radio control plugs and close it up again and reconnect everything in reverse order. If that doesn't fix it, then have the clock spring replaced professionally, its too much mucking around if you don't know what you're doing.
SOURCE: horn and cruise control dont work, what to do?
It is wires wound around in a circle within a plastic housing called a clockspring. The clockspring lives behind the steering wheel and connects your horn, cruise and most importantly the airbag. Usually it is the airbag that is first to quit with a light on the dash coming on.
SOURCE: the horn and cruise control doesn't work, fuses are
the horn input to ground is located in the cruise control module. if they both don't work then your cruise control module or the clockspring coil for the steering wheel needs to be replaced. If airbag lights is on as well then I would change the clockspring coil first.
SOURCE: horn and steering wheel functions not working
could be a bad clocksping the airbag is on it to but one of the thin film "wires" that are glued to it may have cracked.all the switches are on one "wire" the resistance of each switch is how the body control computer knows what button is pushed. i broke one of those clocksprings accidently when i worked at volvo so thats how i know those things are/were 1400.00$ i would take it to the dealer to have them diagnose and repair. the clock spring breaks real easy when you take off the steering wheel.
