SOURCE: How do you compress the

Your Passat has screw-in rear pistons. Only the fronts will compress. For the rears go to AutoZone and use their tool loan program. Leave a deposit at the counter and they'll loan you the piston kit that will allow you to twist the pistons back into the calipers. You'll want to remove the brake fluid reservoir cap before you do this, so that you're not fighting against the hydraulic pressure in the lines. Take the cap off, and size up the proper piston tool to the caliper pistons on your car. Use the kit to screw the pistons back into the caliper enough so you can fit the new pads over the rotor, replace the cap, and pump your brake pedal several times to reseat the pads against the rotor. Then you're done:)

2008 Land Rover battery keeps dieing. Change battery, change alternator

If it dies while the truck is sitting turned off, then you have an active circuit in the truck which should not be on (e.g. glove box or underhood light). To find the cause, an ammeter on one of the battery cables will show you a current drain and you can then pull fuses until the drain stops to find which circuit it is.
If the battery is draining while the truck is running, it is not charging properly. This usually means the battery is shot (even a new one - do a load test) or the alternator regulator is faulty or you have a wiring/grounding problem in the charging circuit.

My 2013 VW Polo battery goes flat if the car is stationary for more than a day even if it was well charged when the car was parked. The battery is fairly new.

Leave the battery disconnected for 24 hours to see if you have an unintended parasitic draw on the battery when it is just sitting.

If it stays charged, then you probably do have an unintended draw. Look on YouTube to find videos of how to find this draw-there are numerous videos. What you do is to have the ignition key on, and pull fuses until the draw is stopped-then you investigate that circuit that the fuse protects. Use a testlight or voltmeter connected to the battery to see when a fuse is pulled and the draw on the battery stops.

What would cause a batt drain on a 1998 vw jetta after sitting over night

Alot of things. Could be a short or a bad diode in the alternator. Or even as simple as a bad relay.

Battery draining out checked alternator lights radio etc please advise new battery fitted aswell

You need to do a parasitic draw test with a amp meter hooked up in series with negative battery post an negative battery cable ! Check how much draw there is an then pull fuse's till you see the draw go away . Find a wiring diagram of power flow for that circuit to see what all is powered by that fuse . Alternator is good brand new battery still want hold a charge 1991 buick park avenue

If you have a test light available disconnect the negative cable and connect the test light to the cable and to the battery. If it lights up you have a parasitic load.Something is using power when it shouldn't be. A very dim light or acceptable parasitic draw is about. .015 amps depending on vehicle options it could be all the way up .025amps. If the test light is pretty bright it has a large load pulling it down. Finding parasitic draws can be quite time consuming. You can leave the test light connected and start pulling fuses one at a time till the light goes out or gets very dim. This can help you find what circuit is causing the draw. Once you find that particular circuit you will need to find out what services that circuit supports. Example the cigarette lighter may run the accessory lights such as the dome. You will need to find out what is on the circuit to start figuring out which component is dragging the battery down.

I bought a brand new starter, alternator, and battery new batteries keep dying out

You have a drain on the battery somewhere. It could be as simple as your glove box light staying on when the door is closed.

The easiest way to find the problem is to set a meter in line to monitor amperage draw, then pull individual fuses until you find the circuit responsible for the power draw. After you identify the circuit, you can inspect it closer to see why it is pulling power.

If you don't believe you can chase down the power draw, any shop would be able to hunt down the problem for you, but sometimes electrical issues can be time-consuming to identify the problem.

Does a 2001 VW Beetle Turbo need to have a charge at 12.6 volts to conduct a parasitic draw test? I am told by a repairman that he cannot find out what is going on until I get a new alternator, batter

this is not true, a parasitic draw can be found with the battery in any state of charge, yhe purpose of this test is to find out out what is drawing current, meaning amperage from the battery and at what rate. take this to a certified mechanic, should be easy to find with the right tools.if you need more help get back to me. please rate my fix as i stive to be the best Thanks Ray

Repalced battery as old one had dead cell the new battery was fitted and went flat have replaced starter and alt but still get flat battery have check all fuses and all are in woking order and to stage...

check the parasitic draw on the battery. If the draw is greater than 40 ma, something is causing the battery to go flat before it should. Recommend you monitor parasitic draw using a DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter) and unplug one fuse at a time until you discover which circuit is draining the battery.
