If abs is failed light off speed sensor is fine. if on and no speedo then its the sensor. if no abs light and no speedo then the problem is from the abs unit to the ecu to the speedo and any other device in line, like sunroof etc as the signal is though there. also to rule out speed. speedo should jump a bit back when power is turned on from ignition if not then its between the connection to the dash and speedo. sensor is on passide for speedo and abs.

You have 2 converters on that vehicle (front and rear). The 02 sensor in front of the FRONT converter is directly in front of the converter. The other sensor is behind the FIRST converter.

SOURCE: 2004 subaru forester, 99,000 miles. Check engine

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the great suggestion . I'll have Autozone read the codes on Monday. Thanks again!"

2002 subaru forester. will not idle or take fuel properly. have replaced idle air control, coil, timing belt, etc. does not read any codes.

Try unplugging the MAF sensor, the check engine light will come on but the engine should run almost normally. If this is the case replace the MAF sensor. MAF's seldom set fault codes.

Speedometer does not work 1998 Subaru forester

Sounds that the magnetic pickup on the vehicle speed sensor has stopped working. Dirt or grease usually. That will cause an erratic reading. Also check wiring to sensor. Poor connection is rare but possible. Good luck and have a good day.
