I'm changing out a bad alternator on a 2004 mustang ,where is the belt tensioner locateed?

usually right under the alternator sometimes the alternator is the belt tensioner, if so then just loosen the alternator bolts and in should move inwards a little allowing you to get the belt off, if thats the case then make sure you have a pry bar of some sort to adjust the new alternator so the belt will be tight

Alternator tested pulling no amps, are these time consuming to change on a 2004 front wheel drive v-6/

Changing this alternator on these trucks are VERY time consuming. Labour cost can be about $300 -$500.00 plus parts.
The Alternator is located underneath by Crankshaft pulley, and the drive(axle) shaft has to come out to replace Alternator. A lift hoist is needed along with patience..
I would recommend you to see your service shop to preform this job..

Tips on changing out the alternator for 2004 f150 ford supercab 5.4 v8

First disconnect battery. Next unload tensioner that applys spring tension to serpentine belt. Set belt aside, just take it off on alternator pulley. Try to leave it on all other points that it rides on. No need to take off entire belt, unless you want to change it also. Unbolt alternator bolts & unplug electrical connectors. Reverse procedure to reinstall.
