Yes, if the coolant flow is low, the engine will overheat. In some models, the computer will also shut off the a/c when the coolant temp exceeds normal.

SOURCE: Blazer running hot. Antifreeze level low cause of

If you are seeing coolant on the top side of your engine, it sounds to me like it may be the intake manifold gasket. Does this have the 4.3L engine? If so, this is a common problem with these engines. If the leak is severe enough, the cooling system will not build up the pressure it needs and this will cause it to run hot. Hope this helps.

How to top up radiator fluid

Depending on what the temperature is depends on the amount of coolant you use with water. Check the instructions on the coolant/antifreeze.
With the right coolant mix you can then top up the expansion tank or direct to the radiator depending on your car.
If you have let the fluid go very low you may have air in the pipework so top up then squeeze the large pipes to move the air.
Try not to top up when the engine is hot, the system becomes pressurised and you could get burnt. Cold liquid in a hot engine can cause cracks.
In an emergency you can add water or neat antifreeze depending on what you have but get someone with a hydrometer to check when its next convenient as some antifreezes with cause corrosion on alloy engines

Truck was running hot. not leaking, but water levels were low. would that be the problem

YEP LOW COOLANT WILL CAUSE ENGINE OVER HEAT.BE SURE TO HAVE CORRECT MIXTURE 50/50 COOLANT AND WATER.TOO MUCH WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM WILL CAUSE IT TO EVAPORATE AWAY.NEED ANTIFREEZE TO RAISE BOILING POINT.

Antifreeze light says system is low and car runs hot but antifreeze level is where it should be

Sounds like it could be a thermostat not opening. If the thermostat doesn't open then it will get hot because its not allowing the cooled antifreeze from the radiator into the engine. Your car has two circulations with the antifreeze. While your car is running it is heating up the antifreeze in the engine and when it reaches a certain temperature the thermostat opens and takes the hot antifreeze from the engine and puts it into the radiator to be cooled. At the same time the cool antifreeze from the radiator is placed into the engine to keep it cool. If your thermostat doesn't open your engine will get hot and overheat.

Heater blows cold air when the truck is idling or in stop and go traffice

a question to an answer: is your truck has any heat when you rev it 2000 rpm, or above?
have you check your coolant level? if level is low you have a small coolant leak, a water pump may be at fault, and causing air pockets in your heater core, check for leaks your self, dealer wont tell you if vehicle still under warranty.
good luck

Car smokes in front when started then goes away

Blown head gaskets cause this symptom.
Also, oil leakage on to the hot parts of your engine can cause this problem.

The smoke can be either antifreeze or oil that accumulated in a plenum or low spot that gets hot when you start your engine.

2000 Chevy Venture not blowing any heat but engine is overheating. Could it be my water pump?

I would highly suspect the thermostat, cost is about $12 for the part and some anti freeze. Good luck

It isn't heating correctly and i smell antifreeze. How do I check and replace a heater core in it?

If your heater core was leaking you would have antifeeze coming thru your vents and putting a greasy film on your windshield. You would smell antifreeze the stongest if it was leaking onto a hot engine part. low antifreeze will cause bad heater performance, I would check by the thermostate housing, and the water pump for leaks

Engine running hot

Sounds like your antifreeze level is low. When it flows you get hot air and when there's an air bubble due to lack of antifreeze all you'll get is air.
