There isn't one. It uses a MAF (mass airflow) sensor.

SOURCE: 1998 Ford Explorer will not start when hot

Sounds like the choke is getting stuck. It's an electric choke. So, clean it and its linkages. Also, check the vacuum for leaks. With 123K, I'd start with a cleaning.

SOURCE: 1994 ford explorer dies while driving

Easy Fix! I know exactly what ur talking about, had the same problem for ******* ever, and its not the fuel pump, trust me!!! and it will cost you absolutely nothing to fix! I don't know what the hell they're called exactly, but on the right side of your engine there's a black box, next to where you put the coolant in, with fuses in it. They look like one inch cubes and will say Ford right on top. One of them is for the fuel pump. Try switching it with one of the others, or just switching all of them around and ur car will fire up, but the one that's not working will cause something else not to work properly, but at least u'll now what the problem is. Than just do what I did: take one with you and go to a junk yard and pull out a bunch, they're the same on many ford vehicles, even the newer ones, like 2000, not just the explorer. Make sure its the same one, pull out a bunch, put em in ur pocket and leave without paying, nobody will notice anyways, but they're tricky to find at a parts store, surprisingly. When ur car is running beatiful again, come back to this post and tell me if I was right! God knows how many ours I spent in that car stranded, waiting for it to fire up. Sometimes it'd be 5 minutes, sometimes an hour, sometimes hours, even days. Never knew when it would or wouldn't. Thought is was the starter too! If it works, tell me!!!

Testimonial: "you have helped me out so so much you were exactly right and also it happened to my sons dodge neon and it was the same solution thank you so so much "

SOURCE: IAC control valve. Locato\ion 2002 ford escape

If it's not idling and has problems starting, it's probably the IAC motor. It's located on the throttle body. Follow the airfilter box all the way to the engine, where the rubber flex hose attaches. The throttle body should be the first aluminum part you come to. Attached to the side you'll find small little aluminum part with a small wire harness attached. Unplug it, take the IAC motor off and clean inside with carb cleaner. This should fix the problem with the idle.

2002 Ford Explorer odometer DTC Test Codes.

Odometer trouble codes can sometimes be an absolute pain in the tailbone to decode. An option here is to get the vehicle plugged into an OBD2 scanner to check the main ECU for Trouble Codes. These are easier to decode as they are generally used in most vehicles after 1996. Post these codes and we'll try to help you more.
If you have to pay for this service ask at 4 or 5 different places as prices can be VERY different!

99 ford explore runs until it hits up then it won't stay started like it's not getting fuel. But when it cools down it will start and run until it heats up again

I rebuild these ECU's all the time. We have sold thousands of them also. If yu have a check engine light on at any point when this happens then you want to get the codes scanned at autozone/ advanced auto for free or a certified mechanic (recommended) If you need an ecu ecm pcm or anything like that please call my cell. Good luck!

I have a code that show on CARMD about the srs light (airbag) on my dash , how do I reset or shut it off without changing an airbag

Hi there:The Restraints Control Module (RCM / located behind right side of the instrument panel) monitors the resistance of the driver side air bag circuit loop and the air bag module igniter at RCM, if the resistance is greater than 3.6 ohms, the RCM will store diagnostic trouble code B1994 and flash lamp fault code.
About the possible causes, pay attention that a high resistance on the driver side air bag circuit can be caused by:
  • - damaged wiring on circuit 1257 (WH/LB).
  • - damaged wiring on circuit 1258 (BN/LB)
  • - damaged driver side air bag module.
  • - damaged RCM.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

ECU is the engine computer or PCM, Powertain Control Module. It controls all your engine functions and some transmission functions and turns on the fule pump relay to run the fuel pump. Why?
