I have a 2001 stratus 2.4 l engine sedan was driving and it suddenly quit. The dash showed the code deck.can you tell me what it means?

COULD BE LOSS OF ALL TRASMISSION FLUID, BROKEN HOSE, BLOWN PUMP,BURNT TRANSMISSION RINGS( HOW DID THE TRANNY OIL SMELL?) BURNT TRANNY FLUID OR A COMBINATION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE. IF IT JUST QUIT, YOU PROBABLY HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT WILL REQUIRE A REBUILD OR A SALVAGE TRANSMISSION FROM A LOCAL WRECKING YARD. THE LATTER BEING THE CHEAPEST AND AT TIMES THE BETTER DEAL ALL AROUND, TIME WISE AND MONEY. VERSUS A REBUILD THAT REQUIRES NEW PARTS, BANDS, PUMP, SEALS AND ON AND ON PLUS HOURS OF LABOR TO FIX EQUALS ONE BIG BIG BILL!BEING A 2001 A TRANNY FROM A WRECKING YARD ISN'T GOING TO HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON IT EITHER SO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND SOME PRETTY DECENT ONES. P1494 Leak Detection Pump Switch or Mechanical Fault
Part of the early evaporative emission system. (Fuel tank fumes)

It’s there to allow the computer to run an integrity test of the fuel tank, lines and carbon canister’s ability to contain all of the fumes coming from the tank and all line associated with the system.
The code could be set for a number of reasons such as a faulty gas cap, cracked vacuum lines, solenoids & vent valves stuck to the pump itself.
It can be a very difficult fault to cure being it doesn’t take a very big leak anywhere in the system to set the code and that’s if it’s a leak and not an electrical or mechanical fault.

Gas cap tight?

• A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
• A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
• The EVAP Canister may be leaking.

Common fault on FORD
