My check oil light comes on all the time and sometimes even the check engine light. Although there isn't oil leaking from under my suv, it doesn't seem to hold oil for very long, why is this?

It sounds like you may have a bad oil pressure sending unit gone bad and leaking oil, you should have that replaced soon as possible and you can do it your self with common tools. Go to Auto Zone and they should have the oil pressure sensor and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the oil sensor with the new one. As your at Auto Zone have then scan your car for any DTC codes just to make sure that is not anything else wrong that we may have over sean.

Normal oil consumption for a car is about 1 quart per 3,000miles. If you can calculate how much of a quart low you are per oil change you will be able to tell whether your oil consumption is excessive or not.
