SOURCE: What is a knock sensor? And could this cause a car
A knock sensor is simply a microphone that is screwed into the engine block. It is there to listen for pinging or engine "knock" that is caused by poor fuel or extreme load. When the computer hears the knock, it retards timing, which in turn reduces the tendency for knocking, however, it will reduce power to a certain extent as well. It is possible that a faulty knock sensor can be telling the computer to ****** ignition timing too much, it is also possible that there is a mechanical problem within the engine that is mimicking the sound of knocking and retarding timing as well.
SOURCE: where do I find the knock sensor on my 2002 Kia
remove the intake manifold ,remove radiator ,remove radiator intake and outake housing, remove fan ,remove all belts: power steering, alternator and if you have a/c, remove harmonic balancer ,remove timing belt covers, remove timing belt remove intake housinng once you have remove all the above, your freaken engine will look naked, you can see the location of the knock sensor is locate in the engine valley
SOURCE: Where is location of knock sensor for kia spectra
The knock sensor is hidden by the intake manifold bracket which is on the firewall side offf the car.To get to it you have to jack the car up and support it.with jack stands .always disconnect the battery when working with electrical peices. The knock sensor will be under the intake manifold bracket which is to the left of the alternator. To remove it remove the bracket, disconnect the plug to the sensor, remove the retaining bolt and then remove the sensor.I hope this helps finding it and replacing it.
