My car behaves as if its in neutral only when the headlights are on! Also when the lights are on, the R for reverse, along with whatever gear I put it into on the dash stays lit no matter what gear I put it into.
It's possible u have a Major/Miner Electrical short.

Broken site in sitingbhzrness in trunk on drivers idea the trunk hinge can cut the harness when u turn headlights on it grounds out trans so it won't shift turn lights off shifts I had same problem in my 92 ls400 found the broken wire taped it never had another problem that was 7 years ago!

Change the Transmission filter and flush the fluid in it, I'd be willing to be the factory filter is still in these trannys and it's about clogged up, gettin worse once the fluid heats up. The pump won't build enough pressure to allow it to act properly.

It sounds like you have a damaged shifter cable.It is an adjustable cable but if it is that far out of adjustment then it is probably damaged. Replace it.

slide the lower part of shifter handle down and you will find two screws, but there is 2 wires coming in from center console for overdrive button.you have to remove the center console cover and remove the 2 wires from connector and then pull up threw handle.when you go back together you will have to guide them back threw the handle.

hello freddy - the good news is that your lexus has a self diagnosis system built into it. this is what you need to do.
drive to an auto zone or similar autoparts store and have them put your lexus on their computer to scan for trouble codes. they offer this as a free service. with a little luck this scan will isolate the problem and the fix will be quick and easy.
if this doesnt fix it for you get back and let me know what codes popped up.
