Hi,
The service will be due at a certain mileage OR a certain date, whichever comes FIRST.
So if the service book says it should have an 80,000 mile service, that has come first, before the calendar schedule.
It's a yellow warning light, which is a 'first-stage' light. A red light is a problem, a yellow one is just a reminder/warning.!
It's safe to drive it, but get it in for it's service as soon as you can as its now over the scheduled service period.
Best of luck.

Most likely a gas cap or emissions issue, if you are sure the car is running fine. But you will have to have it scanned to know for sure.

SOURCE: I have a 2005 Nissan pathfinder

I just had the same issue with the same mileage as yours. Mine is the sending/sensing unit and it causes the range, distance to empty, etc. to be incorrect. The dealer is replacing for just under...$500. Another problem has been a whining sound under the hood, which they diagnosed as worn timing chain guides...cost to replace the guides is about $1,400. Not replacing results in the chain running on metal and chain wear, not to mention that whine. The service advisor said these two issues are the most common problems with Pathfinders. Good luck with your problems.

SOURCE: My 2002 VW Jetta failed smog due to MIL/Check

if this vehicle is driven in the city almost exclusively, take it out on the freeway a good 30-40 miles prior to taking it back to the smog shop. that should prime all the readiness sensors. make sure your doing some speed and not just going 55 in the slow lane. get the system nice and hot.

I have a 2004 that did not pass the state of Illinois emission test.

occassionally but will go out and won't come back on for weeks at a time. Does anyone have a clue?

I have a 2005 Mercedes Benz C180 Kompressor the yellow engine light on the dashboard came on - what can the cause for this be.

Don’t panic. Here are five of the most common reasons why your check engine light might have come on in your Mercedes-Benz.

Check Engine Light Mercedes-Benz

1. Gas Cap

While your gas cap might not seem like the most important piece of equipment in your Mercedes-Benz, it actually carries a pretty important role. It maintains pressure in the engine and prevents fuel vapors from leaking out. In some cases the check engine light will come on when the gas cap is not tightly replaced. We suggest that you unscrew the gas cap and re-tighten until it clicks, then allow the check engine light up to a day to reset. A loose, broken, or missing gas cap can cause your vehicle to start jerking and lower its efficiency. If the light remains on after a day, take in to the service garage.

2. Oxygen Sensor

The oxygen sensor in your Mercedes-Benz monitors the percentage of unburned oxygen in the exhaust. Over time the sensor can get covered in ash; therefore, reducing its effectiveness and leading to a decrease in gas mileage and an increase in emissions.

3. Catalytic Converter

Your catalytic converter reduces exhaust gases by converting carbon monoxide and other harmful materials into harmless ones. Most failures are down to faults with other items, but a damaged catalytic converter can mean your car will fail its emissions test.

4. Mass Airflow Sensor

The mass airflow sensor allows your car’s computer to know how much fuel is needed based on the amount of air coming into the engine. Faults can decrease efficiency, increase emissions, and cause your car to stall.

5. Spark Plugs and Wires

Spark plugs and wires are responsible for creating the original spark that initiates combustion within your Mercedes-Benz, but they can fail over time. If yours are faulty, misfires will occur.

Your Mercedes-Benz Check Engine Light is never something you should ignore. While these reasons might not sound too serious, they can develop into a much more complex issue over time. See your mechanic.

Mercedes 140

Its the service light, and its counting down the mileage to the service point, after a service it is reset with a distance till the next service. It can be reset by pushing the button for the trip reset button and hold on while you switch the ignition on, the number will rise to a preset number.

I'm considering buying a 1987 Toyota supra turbo. 81k miles. What major or minor issues can I expect or need to ask owner about ?

If you ask the owner for the faults he has had expect an out right lie as to nothing is wrong with the vehicle. With such low mileage better to ask why he is selling it. I suggest that the seller produces proof that he actually owns the car and is capable of selling it legally. Next take it for a good run ( not around the block) and be critical in listing all noises and problems you find. Next take it to a reputable mechanic for a frank appraisal of the faults and see what he comes up with. Any must do repairs should be deducted from the asking price as you will be stuck with that cost.. Considering the age and the listed mileage I am suspicious that the mileage has been tampered with as most cars average 15 to 25 k per year Be very cautious also because the parts supply for an 87 car has dried up and you will most likely only get second hand parts ( Panels)

1999 silverado service engine soon light blinks

Don't confuse the Check Engine Light with the maintenance or service light. These lights illuminate when a routine service is due. They are usually triggered by mileage, gallons of gasoline consumed, or some other type of vehicle-use measurement.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

Check engine light

115000 miles on a Benz is not a lot of mileage provided the car was serviced on time and properly. You might want to have someone run a scan for trouble codes to see why the light is on. It could just be a bad 02 (oxygen) sensor. Does the car run OK?
