SOURCE: high idle 1997 Madza 626 4 cylinder auto transamission

The PCM controls idle speed to ensure good driveability. The PCM will only attempt to maintain the desired idle speed when it “knows” the throttle is closed. A throttle switch or the TPS input is used to determine when the throttle is in the idle position. Motors and solenoids are used by most PCM’s to control idle speed. Many PCM’s are programmed to attempt to control the idle speed by adjusting spark timing and then by controlling the idle speed actuator. Some computers of the early 80's did not control idle speed.

SOURCE: idle at 1500 to 2000 rpm

Most likely the throttle body gasket (between the throttle body and the intake manifold) is leaking.

SOURCE: idle out of control.

check all your vacuum hoses and the throttle body itself for a vacuum leaks if the hoses replace as nessasary if to check for throttle body get can of carb cleaner and spray around base of throttle body and sides not in it if idle raises you have a vacuum leak goto a good parts store and ask for a rebuild kit don't goto auto zone or advance they don't carry them

SOURCE: Saturn 1999 sl Engine has a high idle speed.

The Idle Air Control valve is located on the throttle body. If you follow the intake tube from your air filter all the way back to the intake manifold, where the intake tube connects to is the throttle body. Remove the intake tubing and you can see the throttle body.

There are two sensors on the throttle body and a vacuum line. You'll see two harnesses going to the throttle body, one is the IAC.

However, a quick diagnostic check can be done without touching the throttle body to confirm your problem. If the car has a normal idle when initially started but then rises to a higher idle and stays there BUT then if you were to shut the car off and restart it and it comes back to normal that is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). This is also located on the throttle body (the other sensor to the IAC). If it is the IAC it will be high and maybe fluctuate a bit.

Testimonial: "I was the one who listed this problem. Thanks a TON for the info. Now, I'll try to fix it. The ultimate check is if if idles normally."

2000 Ford E-250 5.4L Idling high.

you might need to do a idle relearn procedure. Since you done replaced the valve.
You can reset the idle air control (IAC) valve by turning the car on, putting the car into park, pressing the brake down, then pushing the gas pedal down, counting down about 5 seconds, turning the car off, waiting 10 seconds and start the car again, checking to see if the car is idling properly.

Engine idles around 2000 rpm when in park. Dont knpow how to lowere idle speed

Sounds like your Idle Air Control (IAC) value is bad. The IAC is located on your throttle body. It has two screws that attach it and it is easy to replace (if needed). Try taking the electrical connector off of the IAC to see if this corrects the situation. If your car's idle drops to 700-800, then replace the IAC. If the idle is still high, then I would look at the throttle position sensor. Also remember that if a sensor is bad you may get a check engine light coming on. I hope this helps.

96 eclipse non-turbo idles way too high, disconnect MAP sensor it goes down but then idles rough

Yes by disconneting the map sensor will drop idle and make run rough, the problem is the idle air control valve or a vacuum leak, try to clean the throtlebody with an old tooth brush and some throtlebody spray cleaner if that doesnt help then try having the iac valve checked the iac valve (Idle air control valve ) if with the engine running listen for a hissing noise that will be a vacuum leak, these are the most common reasons for higher than normal idle. hope this is helpful.

When started idels high about 2000 rpm then drops when hot cold ?

the iac probably has carbon built up around it this controls the idle speed try cleaning it first,if not it could be a bad iac or a vaccum leak that the iac takes some time to compensate for to control idle.

Hobgoo44 High Idle

Could be Idle control valve sticking, vacuam hose leaking or upper intake plenum gasket failure, if you've already checked to make sure thottle plates are closing. Next time it happens, try tapping on the IAC with a small hammer and see if the idle drops to normal.
