Fuel supply is compromised. Start with simple and work toward complicated. Change fuel filters first while looking for water in the filters. Try a fuel additve. Do not try to siphon water out the tank chances are you'll mess up your gas gauge and sending unit. My money is on the filters.

I agree with Greg Above,The Problem you have is very common on not just this car but most.I have a 2001 Focus SE with 2.0 and I had the same Problem and it ended up being the Throttle Control Sensor which when changed out the problem ended. Before I changed this part out I checked out other things first, the reason is I did not want to pay for something not needed.I started by changing out the fuel filter because believe me most of the stalling problems are because of fuel not getting to the engine when under power of speeding up,Like bucking,Stalling when first trying to speed up,and misfiring when at idle, other words it\'s the best place to start and the cheapest to fix many potential problems.Clean plugs would be another cheep fix that only takes a little time on getting a good result if you never even looked at the plug\'s before,You most likely don\'t have to put new one in because if you just have dirty plugs cleaning first is the way to go.Also make sure your air intake filter is clean,This alone can make your car run bad plain and simple. If you have Air to blow it from the operate side from the intake again no cost to see if this will take care of the issues you may have with the running and performance of the engine. There also some special cleaner for cleaning sensors that send signals to the on board CPU which when not given the correct signal of what the sensor is checking in turn will give the CPU the wrong Information. On or near that big Hose that runs to the air filter housing there is a sensor that tell the CPU the amount of air flow coming into the engine. This is called the MASS Airflow Sensor. This sensor has a cleaner that you just spray on and will not damage anything near where your spraying it.Most places like Advance Auto Parts,Auto zone,Etc have small cans of these special cleaners.A Lot of the backyard so called Mechanics think it will not matter what they use if it takes off that dark stuff or dirt.Well trust what I tell you now,It matters.I have walked up on people doing work on a car and have seen things I find hard to believe it was even thought about.Just think about someone washing parts with a pan full of gas. a guy wondering why the plastic melted on some of the parts he was cleaning with brake cleaner to clean out the throttle body.In short try to use the right stuff to help you not cause yourself more issues.Coming to websites like this are the best thing to do,There are many smart people out there that have the knowledge to help you with whatever your working on.Like the saying go\'s ask and you will receive.and in most cases you will get the correct information from the people that have been there just like you. I am sure you issue has been fixed by now but if you still have issues feel free to ask. Good luck to all trying to get though these hard times.
