SOURCE: transmission sometimes shifts hard into next gear.

Typiclly this is caused by a failing Pressure Control Solenoid. Now in some cases, since you are in the 1996 model year you may have a vacuum modulator that controls the shift firmness that can be replaced as it is externally mounted. I dont know how best to describe what it looks like, but look down on your transmission, on the front side facing the radiator and if you see a canister like device that has a vacuum line running to it, that is the vacuum modulator and you could start by replacing that and see if it helps.

If you do not have the vacuum modulator and have instead the electronically controlled version of your transmission then you will have a Pressure Control Solenoid and it, unfortunately, is located on the inside of the transmission and cannot be easily replaced without dropping the whole transmission.

The pressure control solenoid is a common issue with your transmission (4T65) and Im leaning more towards you have the electronically controlled version (4T65E).

SOURCE: CAM SENSOR ENGINE LIGHT. MAX RPM 2000 SOMTIMES

I seen this before first of all don't let the car dealer to BS the way to your money, most of the time is noting wrong whit the sensor it self but is the plug than goes in to the sensor this what i recommend is to buy another sensor from your local auto part store or salvage yard (cheaper) get three pieces of cable and solder directly in to the sensor brake the plastic around the sensor plug if necessary and secure the three cables to it put some silicon in between the solder and the place the new sensor on top of the old one so you now wish wire goes to which and cut and attach one by one. I now this works 100% i have done it my self many times if you need diagrams or sensor locations you can find that at www.alldatadiy.com now if you still have problems unplug all harness especially all the ones than comes from the back of the engine because that engine tends to leak oil on top of the harness if you have wires doing shortcut replace that section you can solder use heat string tube and change the insulation hose they sale those on part stores to put some zip tides on the ends and you will have your car back and will last Note don't let it get to close to the exhaust use zip tides to keep from touching hot areas.

I would check the flywheel for missing teeth or looseness. Also check starter itself.

SOURCE: Hard starting when cold ( engine cranks normally )

see if your engine has a ECT sensor (temp sensor that delivers information to your ECM) they are installed on the intake side of the cylinder head, it usually has 2 cables, have it checked replace if necesary

Whining noise when extreme cold days, that goes away when my 2005 Mariner warms up. Seems to come and go until the car warms up.

Alternators can sometimes whine when start up on a cold morning, they run on full load till they get the battery back up to full charge. When the whining stops, switch on electrical equipment (Headlights, fan full boost, heated rear window) if the whining starts again its the alternator.

Engine makes whining sound

Take the belt off and spin all of the pulleys. the bad component should be obvious. high pitch whine is usually alternator bearing for the 98 3800 its timkin part# 100ccab or it can be the power steering pump(but the pitch will change as your steering if it is that) water pump, idler and tensioner pulleys(if you have to change either one, replace the tensioner itself). if you have the supercharged model there are a few parts that can whine( or the s/c is low on oil.)

Mazda 6 2005 whining from fuel pump when start car only does it in fall and winter.if i turn car off and start it again it goes away?? would a fuel stabilizer or cleaner help?

this noise is caused by the shaft bearings of the gear rotor in the fuel pump being worn, no chemical will correct this problem, most likely the fuel pump will work for years to come, if it gets noisy all the time then t is time to replace it.

Whining engine

It could be a pully bearing going bad, or your power stearing pump. next time you start it when it's cold try moving your steering wheel left to righ and see if there is any changes. The next time try removing your belt before you start it and see if the noise goes away. The belt could be warn out and hard itll it warms up and soften up. Start with a new belt. Good luck

Starter Removal

I think you are right about the starter being the problem; the whining you hear is the starter free-wheeling after disengaging too early.
Getting clearance is another matter; I have, on occason, used floor jacks to move the engine temporarily without unbolting the motor mounts but that may be necessary in some cases. Sometimes, I have just had a helper use a 2X4 to shift an engine enough to gain a needed 1/2" of clearance.

2005 chrysler Town & Country

Make sure the oil cap is on the engine properly & oil is'nt spraying out as the engine runs.Check the oil level.Possibly a vaccum hose was knocked off causing air to be sucked in (thats popular) which affect the idle & causes whining.Have you been to this shop before? If you dont find the answer, ask them to help.

I have a 1990 buick lesabre that wont start

Timing chains do not go bad on a 3800. The old 3.8 b engines did. Try a crank sensor. My timing set in my 3800 has 293500.00 miles on it.
