That wud trash the engine. Lots of clanking. Usually busted pistons and valves. Diesels are zero clearance engines.

Not only for Cummins engine, for all engines, when the belt is sued for a long time, the power of the car will disappear, accompanied by strong noise, and there will also be abnormal noise when it starts again. Service life, if the timing belt will have different materials, different manufacturers and different use cycle, after a certain period of time all need to be replaced. If there is a fault with the timing belt, there will be signs: weak engine, abnormal noise, unable to start, or long-term start, and so on. As a result, the owner needs to consider this component when it comes to the above phenomenon, not only for this, but also for other parts. Due ti friction with mechanical components, dynamic heat, vibration, or other components (such as transmission wheels), also reduce or reduce the service life of the belt, so after a certain period of time, according to the manual standards, timely or early inspection, maintenance, when found abnormal or belt cracking, lengthening, damage, should be replaced in time. In general, the replacement standard is in accordance with the requirements of the manual, appropriate advance is appropriate.

2.5l. Why is there no compression on rear cylinder head?

There is two types of engine when considering the matter of timing belts and chains...
Non-interference engines.
Interference engines.

Most petrol engines built in the last four decades are interference types and all diesel engines ditto.

An interference engine is where the pistons and valves share the same space making it very important that everything happens at exactly the right time - when the timing belt or chain breaks on an interference engine the best outcome is usually a couple of slightly bent valves because piston to valve contact is inevitable.
With some engines a broken belt or chain is a complete disaster, totally writing off an engine...

The periodic replacement of the timing belt is very important.

How do I replace a timing chain in an 1997 chevy caviller

Hi there,

Generally, in "chain" driven engines, it is not neccessary to change the timing chain unless it is seriously stretched or broken (only timing/cam "belts" require interval changing).

However, if you are experiencing the symptom of chain "rattle", then I would first reccommend you change to the correct grade of engine oil, then secondly, change the chain "tensioner".

Does my ford focus titanium have a timing belt or

This unit will be running a timing chain. Now,The 1.6 "diesel" engine has both a belt and chain. In the diesel edition, the belt runs from the crank shaft to the cam and the other cam is ran by the chain.

05 pontiac g-6 sounds like a cummins diesel. very noisey, no check engine light and no driveability concerns

u might want to have the oil pressure checked, or depending on the engine 3.5 maybe timing chain tensioner.

Do timing chains need replacing after 100000kms on a Mazda Tribute 2001. Dealership says they do!

If you are experiencing issues with timing (backfiring, dieseling, rough idling, power loss, etc...) your timing chain might indeed need adjustment or replacement. If your vehicle is working without issues it's highly unlikely.
