Had the same thing ... kept driving for a while. Turned out to be the front left wheel bearing causing the problem but I waited too long ... I was driving on the highway when it failed ... ended up blowing the front diff seal and damaged the diff gears ... .. the damage was mainly caused by the high rate of speed ... Suggest you get the wheel bearing checked ASAP ... My bill ended up being $1200 fro all the repairs ...

If you have a positraction rear differential, the clutches may be sticking. If so, change lube and use an additive for posi rears. After changing lube, go in a parking lot and make a series of tight turns in both directions to get plates to separate and resume normal function. Before changing lube check to make sure it is full and that no suspension components in the rear are broken or loose that could cause rear to move and drag one wheel when turning.

remove rear tires, then remove brake calipers and rotors, then remove the 4 nuts (each side) that hold the axle shafts to the axle tube (located around the axle tube behind the backing plate) then using a slide hammer pull the axle shafts out, next using a die grinder and an air hammer get he retainer collar and the bearing off (without damaging the axle shaft) then remove the seal and the outer race which will still be in the housing. next put it all back together, make sure the plate with the studs is still on then slide the seal, bearing, then retainer on (all new parts) and using a press push them all the way back on. then is simple reassembly.

Both of my rear axel seals are leaking on my 2001 Jeep Lorado. I am preparing to repair the seals thisweekend but before I do, I need to know the appropriate steps in doind so. My main concern is the ABS. Will I have to disconnect the ABS gears at all?
