I know nothing about the shift interlock on this vehicle, usually you have to make sure the brakes lites work.
In the past, different year--make--model, I have seen where the release button on the shifter had a problem, couldn't shift it. I removed the shift handle, there was an inner shaft, pressed the inner shaft down with my thumb and shifted the vehicle. Then I just stuck the handle back on the shaft. This particular vehicle had no shift interlock.
That may not work on your vehicle and I don't want you to damage anything. Just a thought. I would want to check out the shifter.

SOURCE: 2001 Nissan pathfinder is stuck in park

HEY! It is as simple as a blown fuse. In the fusebox on the lower left side of the driver's seat pull off the cover to the storage box and behind is the fuse box. The storage box reverse side has the labeling for the fuse location. Get yourself a fuse tester or just guess:) and use one of the spare fuses stored in the fuse box area. My problem was the exact same and it was a blown fuse for the "STOP LIGHT" which is the brake/taillights. Towing a boat I managed to get the lights on the trailer wet and shorted them out. Viola! Changed the fuse and it not only started but I could actually shift. Has been fine ever since. I now keep a set of varied fuses of the correct mini size in my glove compartment. Good Luck and I hope this helps.--Linda

SOURCE: 94 honda accord hard to shift from park

You seem to have two (2) separate problems one may be a BAD brake light switch this switch is mounted at the top of BRAKE pedal and control the locking mechanism on gear shifter(safety component-for example if a kid is sitting in seat with vehicle running he/she will NOT be able to put vehicle in gear without stepping on brake). The other problem is a BAD shifter cable-this cable moves the selector in the transmission when you move shift knob. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: Hyundai Accent (97, auto) wont shift out of Park,

ur solenoid is bad u can replace it which is kinda expensive or u can take ur center consil out and remove the peg that unlocks ur shifter the only thing ur lock override does is manually pulls it out. i just jammed a golf tee in it to keep it open and it seemed to work just fine

SOURCE: my 2005 hyundai accent wont shift out of park

on most cars when u step on the brake pedal youll hear a "click" near the center console which is the shift solenoid releasing the "lock" on the floor shifter allowing the shifter to come out of park.check to make sure all the fuses are good and check the brake lite switch(es) and wiringfrom brake lite switch to shifter solenoid.a wiring diagram always helps.

SOURCE: Shift lock release worked...do I still need to take car in?

I think the shift inter-lock solenoid was stuck at the time. it can also be your brake switch did not make contact. next time check your brake lights to see if they work while it hapen. so just wait!

2005 Hyundai Electra, no shift lock override access on console, shifter stuck in park at times.

A guess, an intermittent Electrical contact problem. Hard to trace, but could be as simple as an "intermittent" fuse or relay connection.

2005 Hyundai accent gear shift stuck in park after brake failure

Make sure the brake lights are coming on if not the release solenoid that unlocks park gets no power and will not release the shifter from park position. Also check the owner's manual for a possible way to override the solenoid lock.

Sometimes I can't get the trnsmission out of park. The button to select will not engage

I found that if you take a pencil and poke down in the Shift Lock Override hole located on the shifter console, you should feel slight spring pressure, gently push down until it bottoms out, while holding it down shift the shifter out of park. This is not the fix,but it could allow you to use your car until it can be properly repaired. The actual problem is the shifter lock mechanism is not working properly.

I have a 1998 hyundai elantra which will not shift out of park. The problem started gradually until now it will never shift from park to reverse.

It seems you have a defecive stop lamp switch. When pressing on the brake pedal, the switch activates a solenoid in the shifter column to release the shifter 'lock' mechanism.

Have a 1997 ford thunderbird lx....v-6...3.8...it is stuck in park, cannot shift out of park...is there a shift-lock override button on this model? the fuses all check out o.k., but the button that needs...

no override button. if all the fuses are good, then if i remember there is a switch by the shift lever that when you step on the brake it enables you to move the shifter.good luck

What is the button on the right side of the shifter counsel for?

That could be a shift lock release button. Your car wont shift out of park unless you step on the brake, that button is an override in case you need to get the car out of park and the shift lock solenoid isnt working.
