Pull the column apart and see what is broken or worn or has come loose.

Either the pin that connects rod to tranny is broken off, or there is internal transmission problems.

take out the console, look on youtube for videos of others doing this. most likely you are going to need a saturn shifter bushing repair kit which you can get on ebay for less than 20 bucks.

SOURCE: loose column shifter

Look under dash where steering column is. Find the connection for the shift cable. see if the mount that the cable end connects to is loose. wiggle it. If it is there are 2 torx screws that mount the bracket to the shift tube that you need to tighten. I think they are a T-27 size bit. This is a common problem on fords. easy fix. I usually will take the screws out and use a thread locking compound in them to stop it from happening again.

My blazer won't shift into any gears, only park. When I try to go into R or D or any gear, it shifter just goes up and down, like it's not catching. What could the problem be?

If the shifter feels loose, then the linkage may have come disconnected at the transmission. If you look under the vehicle, you should be able to see where is hooks up on the left side of the transmission.

Cannot put gear shifter on column into park, reverse, neutral, therefore cannot start car. shifter feels sloppy, loose, like it has nothing to grab onto to go into gear. help!!!!!

sounds like the shift linkage has fell off
look under the hood of your car and have someone move the shifter
look for the movement and see is it is hooked up

REVERSE LIGHTS DONT WORK

  • Both bulbs are burned out, or
  • The transmission neutral safety switch is broken, has bad contacts or is out of adjustment. I don't know where it hides on this model, but if it's a column-mounted shift lever, look on the outside of the steering column under the dashboard. In a floor mounted shifter, it will be somewhere inside the shifter mechanism.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer is stuck in drive and won't start. The gear shifter on the steering coloum slide up and down with out engaging into gear. How can I bypass the park gear so I can start it to get it to...

At the bottom of the tilt steering coloum is four bolts that, sometimes, come loose and, from time to time, will come out. If this is the problem have a flat bed tow truck take it to the mechanic. Again, if this in the problem, "YOU DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE IT"! Trust me. VSA

Shifter sloppy, having trouble getting it into gear.

There is a bracket with two torx screws that gets loose. You need to tighten that. You will need to remove the plastic and metal shield under the dash, above the brake pedal to see the bracket. Look up above the brake pedal and wiggle the the shift lever and you will see what needs tightened. Worked for me.
